Break Out ~ Be Free with an ATB

Happy Tuesday to Everyone. It's Jean to share a wood ATB using GSL Cuts, Dixie Belle paints and other yummy ingredients with you. The base is Dixie Belle Palmetto and Clear Coat mixed together, goes on smooth as silk!    I added the clear coat to get a more translucent look, two coats make it opaque, or just use the paint as is for full coverage.      I painted the chipboard with our AlteredPages Americana Chalk Paint,   color Vintage. I cut a Steampunk Butterfly in half with my Kai Scissors (I have had mine for 6 years & abuse them horribly but they are as sharp as the day I got them!) and used a sturdy glue to adhere to the back side of the ATB.  (I did paint the back side later too)   For the front of the ATB, first I used our Alpha stencil, the perfect size for an ATB, in color Vintage again..  I used a Birdcage and birds GSL cuts.  For the cage, I used RebelYellow Dixie Bell...

Layered Lotus Blossom

Greetings everyone!  Today I'm sharing a quick layering project.  You can use this paper tole technique with everything from stencils, to stamps, to our own Altered Pages  graphic collage images. On a 6x6 canvas board , I sponged turquoise paint through the main stencil over a purple background.  It's a textured canvas so I didn't get a crisp line. With the outline part of my Stencil 1 , I cut out three lotus blossoms in different hues of pink to mimic how light shining on the flower would give the petals different hues.  Then I used the detail part of the stencil to sponge on the petals.  I didn't bother to ink them all completely because Part of each was discarded. Once the layers were cut out and glued together I used the detail stencil to blend the three layers together in a few places where my cut lines showed too much. I let the rough outline of turquoise show to act like the flower's shadow. It's a quick project toda...

An Angel Calling...another journal page & technique

Hi all! Becky here today to share another journal page with you & a rather happy accident-technique I came up with... I started by applying Heavy Body Acrylic paint in Titan Buff; & adhering along the side strips of handmade paper with music notes (found at a local art supply, before realizing the Tim Holtz tissue tape would have worked too!). Then I knew I wanted to use some modeling paste with a scroll stamp along the other edge...so I grabbed my bottle & started spreading it on before I realized that it was CRACKLE PASTE ! Oh well, just go with it...There are no mistakes in art, right?!  Well, the effect was AWESOME so I just kept adding my layers! before & after paint When the paste was dry, I applied a wash of Antelope Brown Acrylic Ink, blotting here & there with a towel; let dry. Then another wash of Acrylic Ink in Burnt Umber, blotting again. After those layers were dry, I rubbed in Heavy Body paint in "Parchment", then a lit...

Graphite Enhanced Image Transfer Technique

Happy Day Everyone!   Roni here with a fun new technique for you all to try.... Graphite Enhanced Image Transfer !   This is something I came up with while experimenting with Orange Oil Image Transfers . It's a fun way to get the hand drawn/sketch look without having to have one stitch of drawing ability!     Instructions:   Print out your desired collage image in black and white on plain copy paper and trim. I used images from the following collage sheets: Edgar Allen Poe - AP1552 ; Poe's Raven - AP1820 ; Vintage Vampires AP1817 .   Transfer the image to your cardstock using the Orange Oil Image Transfer Technique (place the image on your cardstock, saturate with Orange Oil Cleaner, burnish with a bone folder and ta daaa your image has been transfered)   Let the transferred image dry completely.  This is a must...if you move onto the next step too soon you will tear your image to bits.   Now take a ...

Application of Image Transfers made with Altered Pages Images and Sakura Crystal Lacquer

Welcome to  Altered Pages ! Susan here bringing a little more image transfer play. My image transfers were created using Altered Pages Digital Download Collage Sheets and Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. I am so excited to get back to work with this peacock image transfer - it's so beautiful!!! This image is from the Altered Pages Tiffany Windows AP-493 Collage Sheet. To prepare my mirror, I gently took apart the frame from handle and removed the glass. Then I spray painted the mirror handle and frame with gold spray paint. Now I'm ready to apply image transfer to mirror handle. **A TIP** To uncurl the image transfers - I misted with a small amount of water to prevent additional cracking and to make image transfer easier to work with in application. Please watch the following video to describe further... This is completed applied image transfer after about an hour of adhering and adjusting while working in small section...

Ooh-La-La!!! Image Transfers transformed into a Parisian Lightswitch Plate Redux

Hello Night OWLS! Susan back with a completed project as promised using some of the image transfers made earlier today. Due to extreme thunderstorms all afternoon, spray painting my mirror has been delayed. The beauty of having many project ideas allowed me to move on down the list. I am so excited to work with this peacock image transfer - it's so beautiful!!! I got out recycled lightswitch plate and began altering it. Using  Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer  now available at  AlteredPages.com , I adhered down some sections of book papers previously painted using Crystal Lacquer and the Terri Sproul Mixers. **A TIP** To uncurl the image transfers - I misted with a small amount of water to prevent cracking. I used the Crystal Lacquer to adhere the Eiffel Tower and "Paris" image transfers on top of the collaged papers. With some acrylic paint, I brushed in a foggy sky and a cloud over the tower. This really give the image a photographic feel. I finis...

Artist Spackle Image Transfer Technique

I don't know if you have seen one of the newer products offered at Altered Pages - Artist Spackle - or not but I have to tell you I am in love with it. It says on the jar that it's great "for structural, dimensional, and textural applications" and can also mixed with various color mediums and be thinned for other applications. Personally I find it to be a really interesting texture medium that is almost like a sticky dry frosting.  I know, that doesn't make any sense at all but seriously, that's what it feels like when you start playing with it.  It's like sticky frosting when you first pick it up and try to spread it but it's not a wet sticky, it's a dry sticky.  So far I've only used my fingers to spread it out because I think they are the best tools for some jobs.  I initially used it for my Steampunk Shadow Box Kit.   The entire outside of the box was covered with it then painted using a bit of Maya Mist.  It was lots of fun becau...
