Mixed Media Necklace

Happy February Everyone!  This month we are celebrating the color Red and how powerful a color it is...I mean it is the color of L.O.V.E, right? Pretty powerful.  So, check back with us all month long and see what we come up with using red in our works.  I have for you a mixed media Steampunk inspired necklace featuring reds and pinks.   There is a supply list below directing you to everything you need to make one of your own, with variations as well.  I began with a DIY bezel style pendant.  I was so excited to begin that I forgot to snap a before pic of the blank bezel.  You can see what they look like  here.   Next, a collage image was added using  PPA Glue. You can see it is still a little milky white as this was just after applying the wet PPA glue.  I allowed mine to dry overnight, but it was almost totally dry in a couple hours.  I then colorized a chipboard gear with acrylic paint then added a...

A couple tricks up my sleeve . . .

In my last post, I shared one of my favorite embossing powder techniques, that Faux Glass finish, which you can see here .  Today I'll share a couple more of my favorite embossing powder tricks. Nothing beats the wonderful digital collages from AlteredPages which are the perfect items to emboss and add to your cards, collages, books and more. First up, embossing powder resist.  Simply use a clear embossing powder to create an image on vintage ephemera or Altered Pages Collage Background, here a butterfly onto sheet music, then rub ink over the embossed image.  The image remains the color of the ephemera underneath.  Fun, right? Another favorite embossing powder trick of mine is to use the embossing powder to create an edge to pieces, whether small ones attached to collages or cards, or as in this case, to create a finished edge to altered chipboard dominoes . These chipboard dominoes have leather lacing and glass beads attached to create bookmarks--thus,...

More fun with Gypsy Laser Cuts and Altered Pages!

Welcome! Today I have for you something a little boho...a little Gypsy. What a perfect pairing with our partner this month...Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.   I have made for you a Sari Silk, beaded, charmed and bejeweled necklace.  The crowning jewel on this piece, however is not a jewel at all... it is a Gypsy Laser Cut Clock Hand .     This is what we started with, Sari Silks, charms, and the hour hand laser cut. I want to point out that this is not a silver toned necklace or gold toned piece. I purposefully used silver tone, gold tone, semi-precious beads, wood beads and crystals.    I wanted this to truly go with anything.  This is also not symmetrical. This is whimsically asymmetrical and actually convertible....keep reading.  :-) I embossed the clock hand in a few different colors of embossing powder. Basically, I used variations of gold, silver and a glit...

Some jingle jangle to wear

Hi, Jean today to share a project that will be fun to make and even give as a gift. Of course, Sabor papers are the focal point of the project.  We love Sabor for a few reasons... The quality of the paper is fantastic  The patterns and colors are amazing Sabor is a family owned business  Here is the finished piece.   Read on to see how it was constructed.   I had these key tags laying around and kept looking at them, knowing they would make a good art project. Sabor to the rescue!   The white tag is a 1 inch circle.   I used my circle punch and cut out various Sabor papers (you will cover both sides of each tag).  Punch images or colors you want. Apply the papers to the tags with a glue such as Aleene's.  I used a small paint brush and glued the tags, then placed the circles on top, it's neater that way. I colored any white tag area before gluing on my papers.  I used Splash Inks colori...
