Upcycle Project - Cheese Box to Gift Box

“Have you laughed today?”   That’s the question that Laughing Cow cheese asks.   Hopefully, your answer is yes!   Laughing is so important…and in my world so is cheese.   Ha-ha-ha.   But what do you do with the box that these little yummy wedges come in.   In the past, I’ve tossed it into the recycle bin.   This time, I peeled off the labels and thought I’d play with it.   There are two collage images from Altered Pages that I have been looking forward to using.   One is a dragon in flight and the other is a beautiful Oriental background in neutral colors.   I chose the Spiced Chai and Emerald City StazOn inks and copper Maya Mist spray.   I rubbed the entire box with the brown ink and then added some green here and there.   The box had labels on top, bottom and all around the side which left rough spots on the otherwise smooth cardboard.   This gave the box a rustic look once the ink was added and I loved i...

Mixed Media Altered Journal

Happy Friday everyone! I have been doing a lot of cards for my other crafty obligations lately and just needed to get painty and misty! There is a group of crafters making altered journals for soldiers and while THIS journal is not for that, I did want to practice doing some journals in this style in preparation for a future soldier journal. THIS journal is for a friend of mine. They are super fun to do--collect your trinkets and trims, collage glue and dimensional glue, gesso, and mists. I began by crumpling up some packing paper that came with my most recent AlteredPages.com order and gluing it to a composition journal with some Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage. I then added some doilies [both paper and fabric] to the cover with a dimensional glue to hold the heavier objects. I continued adding my flatter embellishments to the cover of the journal--chipboard, metal, bling. I coated this first layer with Gesso. Next I added more!! I clustered dollar store flowers and felt coa...

Here's Your Sign

Happy Friday everyone! leslierahye here making you a "Welcome" sign that can be added to your entry way for the fall. I love crafting for seasons and these colors say fall to me. I began by printing on white card stock Ornate Alphabet Collage Page AP-1031 in two sizes [this can be done with your picture programs that let you print pre-determined sizes for photos--I used the 8×10 and the 5×7 sizes. Then I used my Spectrum Noir to color in the vines and flowers on the letters spelling Welcome. I fussy cut around the letters for my sign. The piece of wood I coated with purple and stenciled on vines using the Mini Capricious stencil from Crafter's Workshop. Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage served as a sealant before I started adding my letters. It worked perfect as a glue and a sealer enabling me to remove some of the layers of my finishing with a damp cloth. I added metal pieces, Silk Sari Ribbons and Dollar Store Silk Flowers with Beacon Fabri-Tac and Misted the flowers an...

ImPACT & PRIZE TIME!!!

items used in the creation of this journal page: book paper paint pens, felt-tip and ball-point pens white glue, Miracle Tape, gesso Gelatos EcoGreen Acrylic Paint Maya Road Mists Andy Skinner Stencil Collage Page Phrenology AP-900 Happy Friday everyone!! It's the last Friday of the month and I wanted to quickly share the above journal page that I created for myself using a ton of AlteredPages goodies. The image on the bottom right serves as a small pocket to hold a letter I've written to myself about the impact of the ImPACT [a cognitive testing system used to determine if patients have suffered a concussion] on my life over the last 8 months. The journaling lists the symptoms and restrictions of our concussion patient. We lived through this not once but twice in the past 8 months--you could say it's had an impact. The phrenology collage page was perfect for this page as well as the transparency of the gelatos and the textures achieved with the mists ...

Slipping Through My Fingers...

It seems like just yesterday my daughter was born and now, just a short time later, she is turning 7 today. Where did the time go? I started this mixed media page with her in mind. The colors are representative of the two of us and just happened to tie in with the collage page  1662D A Visit to the Dollhouse. In addition to the above collage page I used Punchinella , Crafters Workshop Stencil , Maya Road Pearl Mist from the AlteredPages.com store. Additional supplies included Watercolor Paper, Acrylic Paint, Distress Inkpad and Reinker, Want2Scrap Bling and Buttons Galore Buttons. Lyrics to the ABBA song Slipping Through My Fingers  are printed on tissue and Mod Podged to the page allowing the textures of the background stenciling to show through. Happy Birthday Fancy Pants! I hope you enjoy my Mixed Media Page! Thank you for looking~ leslierahye

Coupons of Love

Love is in the air!  It's getting time to be thinking about those Valentine's gifts for your loved one. I created this coupon book to share with the one I love.  It's a fun and easy gift to make.    I cut a piece of white card stock that measured 11" x 4" and rounded the right hand corners.  Then, I folded it in half and scored 1/2" from the left side.  Next, I sprayed the paper with Cherry Metallic Maya Road Mist and let it dry.  I stamped the heart on using the Glitz Love Games Stamp Set .   For the inside, I cut several pieces of white card stock that measured 5 1/4" x 3 3/4" and lightly rubbed a Garnet ink pad by Paris Trunk over the entire paper.  I stamped the banners on using the Love Games Stamp Set by Glitz.  I added them to the cover using a double sided tape  and finished it by writing in some special love messages that can be claimed by my wonderful husband and adding a piece of Washi T...
