Trick or Treat Journal Page

With our theme of October Treats this month I couldn't resist some fun and messy play in my journal. I cropped and enlarged two Halloween Children from the Collage Sheet on my computer and also thought I would use the harlequin patterns from the ATC Coin Background , I also grabbed out some paint and my Gel Plate. I added some paint to the Gel Plate and pressed this onto each page of my double spread in my large Dylusions Journal.  I then took out my Harlequin Stencil and with some black ink added some detail to the pages. Next I cut out bits from the ATC Coin Background and added this around the edges of my pages, before taking more paint and my brayer and covering over my background design. I then worked out the positioning of my three main focal images and added some black paint across the page in the area I planned to add my images. I then proceeded to add in more detail and definition - including the words Trick or Treat.  I adde...

The art of Charles Gesmar

Are you familiar with the art of Charles Gesmar?  I wasn't. Until I found a collage sheet full of his poster art at Altered Pages, that is.  He was a French costumer and poster artist for most of the stars of the Paris Music Hall  and his artwork was big in the 1920's. Today I'm using Gesmar's poster art of Marion Forde on two cards.  I love this playful image.  Because it is filled with pink, I started with the Saucy 6x6 paper bundle by Authentique.  The pink floral background really stood out to me.  While I was flipping through the pad I found the "Domestic Goddess" saying and knew I had to use it.  There are also pink papers in the Fabulous paper bundle.  The individual 6x6 sheets of Fairy Tale Rose would also be cool. I liked this pink Bazzill Edge paper border to bring the two floral pieces together and a pink Dew Drop gave it a touch of shine. And since I had printed two of the collage sheets, I made a sec...

Fairy Dreams

It is no secret that one of the things I love best about Altered Pages is the large catalog of digital collage images.  They can be used as a single focal image on a project or combined in a seemingly infinite amount of ways.  This greeting card today uses images from several different collage sets to create a sweet floral fairy scene. I picked out three of my favorite images and cut each one out in detail.  There was a lot of white in both the daisy and fairy images so I grabbed my craft knife and started by pruning the daisies.  When I was satisfied with my trimming I used glitter glue on the daisy centers.  I printed off a second image so that I could mount the center flower on foam dots. I ended up leaving some of the white toward the bottom because there were other things going on.  I added a white flower border and pale yellow Dew Drops to the bottom.  I find that when you're making a scenery card, it helps your eye to rest when ...

Trick or Treat Tags

Be sure to keep an eye out for our upcoming Tag Challenge later this month!  Altered Pages has an assortment of tags, of all shapes and sizes and of course lots of wonderful collage images to use on them.  They have Halloween covered with everything cute or creepy. I decided to create some Tags that could be used on Trick or Treat Gift Bags.  The cute images from the Halloween Children Collage Sheet took my fancy. I turned to my favorite background technique, torn paper and paint/ink to cover the tag with both design and color.  I worked with papers from the Glitz Black and White Paper Collection and some black paint. I then added some further detail and color with the circles background stamp and red distress oxide ink. I created my Trick or Treat Text on the computer and printed and cut these out to stick down alongside my collage images and added a ribbon to finish. Watch for details this weekend about the ...

Tribute to Nature Tryptich

Jen Rothstein here for AlteredPages.com Today I have a short and sweet project. A Nature themed project, in our color of the month, GREEN!! I am making this project for a "secret someone" and I had a very specific idea in mind. I hope you will forgive me this time, for personalizing.  I wanted to share it with you anyway, as it mostly in green and the techniques I am using will work with so many of the available AP products that you could make several of these in varied themes and colors. They make great gifts, just sayin' I start with 3 small canvases , but you could use any sturdy substrate or just one big canvas . Here I have chosen a nature themed paper and aligned all 3 canvases. I glue paper to the canvas. This one is from my stash but here are some other great papers that would work perfectly for this type of project. After the glue has dried, I cut them apart and trim off any excess. Now I add all my collage elements.  T...
