STENCILS X 3

I thought of Primary and the idea was born.   Primary colors = 3.   I challenged myself to use THREES for the project.    White cardstock base had 3 acrylic paints applied with 3 STENCILS .    I also used three applicators, Brush , Brayer , and  Spouncer .   Three washi tapes were incorporated and finally accented with black and white pens in three of each color circles.  Simple and satisfying! Please visit the website for our Stencil and Floral Sale this month, welcome Spring with Fresh Flowers!

A Birthday Card with a Touch of Love

Red the color of love and power has been our focus this month here at Altered Pages so I took a symbol of love this week to create a little birthday card. The symbol I refer to is the Red Rose - I received some from my hubby for Valentines Day and as they started to droop took the petals off the stems to dry them out to use for making Rose Water but then whilst thinking about my project here today I decided to use a couple of the dried out petals to create a little texture for a print on the Gel Printing Plate . I started my print with a simple layer of Mustard Distress Oxide Ink.  I placed a punched out circle down on this paint layer to create a space for my desired sentiment. Then I added a layer of Red Paint to the plate for the second layer of color on my print and covered this with the rose petals to create some texture which also would allow the underneath color layer to show through. Lifting the Rose Petals I put in place the punched out circle to ...

Do you dream in color?

It is said that.... In our waking state, colors stimulate emotions.  Similarly, colors also stimulate emotions in dreams. Scientific REM studies have proven that we tend to dream in colors but we do not always recall them. The meaning of colors in dreams is not just indicative of the dreamers’ emotional states but also one’s personality traits. Our focus is on RED so here is a bit of history. The Meanings of Red. Red is the color of extremes. It's the color of passionate love, seduction, violence, danger, anger, and adventure. Our prehistoric ancestors saw red as the color of fire and blood – energy and primal life forces.    Red is also a magical and religious color. It symbolized super-human heroism to the Greeks and is the color of the Christian crucifixion. Red was almost as rare and as expensive as purple in ancient days – a fact that may explain its magic and power. Paradoxically, today’s intense red dyes come from crushed insects (the lac beetle and t...

Something for A Bride to Be

Wedding bells will soon ring for Mr. and Mrs. Lowe.    Kaitlin and Wesley will be married on May 4, 2018 (May the 4th be with you for any Star Wars fans out there).   I decided to blog about one of the gifts I will give to the bride.  RED is the color and it fits the for the blog. I started with a raw wooden heart from the Target Value shelves (3.00).   I found the darling Be Still My Heart graphic as a free download at I Should be Mopping the Floor Blog     I printed it on a transparent whole page label.       The raw wood made it easy to paint in a translucent manner to allow the wood grain to show through on the backside.   A wet paper towel with acrylic paint worked like magic. I used Art Alchemy Soft Satin Metallique acrylic for the front side. I then placed the graphic sticky side down on the dried paint.   I typed the letters on my computer and printed t...

Red variations include colors such as scarlet and crimson. The connotations of each variation may vary. Darker colors, like maroon or burgundy, represent an action that is more restrained and sophisticated. Brighter shades, like scarlet, imply more energy and less dominance. Red is the color of fire and blood, it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is an emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. In China, the red color of the packet symbolizes good luck. Red ...

Mixed Media Necklace

Happy February Everyone!  This month we are celebrating the color Red and how powerful a color it is...I mean it is the color of L.O.V.E, right? Pretty powerful.  So, check back with us all month long and see what we come up with using red in our works.  I have for you a mixed media Steampunk inspired necklace featuring reds and pinks.   There is a supply list below directing you to everything you need to make one of your own, with variations as well.  I began with a DIY bezel style pendant.  I was so excited to begin that I forgot to snap a before pic of the blank bezel.  You can see what they look like  here.   Next, a collage image was added using  PPA Glue. You can see it is still a little milky white as this was just after applying the wet PPA glue.  I allowed mine to dry overnight, but it was almost totally dry in a couple hours.  I then colorized a chipboard gear with acrylic paint then added a...
