Here's Your Sign

Happy Friday everyone! leslierahye here making you a "Welcome" sign that can be added to your entry way for the fall. I love crafting for seasons and these colors say fall to me. I began by printing on white card stock Ornate Alphabet Collage Page AP-1031 in two sizes [this can be done with your picture programs that let you print pre-determined sizes for photos--I used the 8×10 and the 5×7 sizes. Then I used my Spectrum Noir to color in the vines and flowers on the letters spelling Welcome. I fussy cut around the letters for my sign. The piece of wood I coated with purple and stenciled on vines using the Mini Capricious stencil from Crafter's Workshop. Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage served as a sealant before I started adding my letters. It worked perfect as a glue and a sealer enabling me to remove some of the layers of my finishing with a damp cloth. I added metal pieces, Silk Sari Ribbons and Dollar Store Silk Flowers with Beacon Fabri-Tac and Misted the flowers an...

A Mixed Media Tip | To Seal or Not to Seal...

Happy Friday AlteredPages.com fans! I wanted to share a tip with you today for working with digital collage papers. You can purchase your images preprinted or buy them as digital images and print them on your own media. Many artists will choose to print their images on laser imaging machines so that they will take on the liquidness of mediums, sprays and adhesives for their projects. I like to print on my own inkjet printer. Because of this preference, I treat my images before using extra-wet products over the top. Below I share with you what happens with various media before and after treating them with a "sealer." For this demonstration, I have used Elmer's White School Glue for my sealer. Primarily I use this as I buy it in bulk during back to school sales and have quite a bit on hand at all times--we like to glue at our house! I also prefer this as a sealer as it has some fantastic properties--when used with paint it will naturally crack and when used with Distress C...

Winter Dreams of Summer....

When I was drifting off to sleep last night listening to the sleet / ice hitting the window I was thinking how nice it would be to be some where warm - LOL!!   As a result I wanted to share a collage I made using artist spackle, metallic mists, some of Altered Pages beautiful vintage beach images and a few other goodies...   Memories of the Sea....     I applied a thick layer of the Artist Spackle to a game board (cut to size).  Then while the spackle was still wet I embedded a strand of faux pearls, sea shells, sea glass and a pearl.   After the spackle had dried I applied various shades of the dye mist ink to the entire board.     I then set about creating a collage of summery beach images in the center and even included a small vial filled with sand collected while visiting NJ.     So, if you're stuck inside watching the rain/ice/snow coming down... don't fret - summer is on it's way...

Coupons of Love

Love is in the air!  It's getting time to be thinking about those Valentine's gifts for your loved one. I created this coupon book to share with the one I love.  It's a fun and easy gift to make.    I cut a piece of white card stock that measured 11" x 4" and rounded the right hand corners.  Then, I folded it in half and scored 1/2" from the left side.  Next, I sprayed the paper with Cherry Metallic Maya Road Mist and let it dry.  I stamped the heart on using the Glitz Love Games Stamp Set .   For the inside, I cut several pieces of white card stock that measured 5 1/4" x 3 3/4" and lightly rubbed a Garnet ink pad by Paris Trunk over the entire paper.  I stamped the banners on using the Love Games Stamp Set by Glitz.  I added them to the cover using a double sided tape  and finished it by writing in some special love messages that can be claimed by my wonderful husband and adding a piece of Washi T...

It's Snowing with Doilies!

Happy Friday everyone!!! A few years back I learned a technique to make a snowflake with a square die from the Spellbinders Collection from a tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers...When I saw these new Nesting Doily Square dies that Jean got into the store at AlteredPages.com I knew I wanted to try this out! I love the results!! I hope you enjoy them too! The noticeable difference in this die set and the Spellbinders Fleur de Lys is first the cuts--more filigree type cuts in the Spellbinders. However, you only have the 2 sizes to work with in that set and in this set there are 5. I chose the two sizes that were closest to the Spellbinders dies to test run this snowflake pattern. For this project I cut the second from the largest and the second from the smallest. The QuicKutz dies are SIGNIFICANTLY nicer to cut with for this project--because you will want to do this if you have them. They have padding in the punch out holes...why is this significant you ask?? Because the die automatic...

Memory Art Page | Tapped Out

Happy Friday everyone! I have been spending time in my art journal calendar this week, finishing my July pages, creating my August calendar page and adding some memories upon which to reflect. The page I did today uses images from the AP2027 Feats of Strength, the Tagged Alphabet, Maya Mist, Paris Trunk reinker, Sakura Crystal Lacquer, Glitz Peek-a-Boos punchinella and book paper from AlteredPages.com along with brown acrylic paint, gold sharpie marker and photos. The Process: The page was layered on an upcycled travel catalog and painted with brown acrylic paint and then swiped over the top with Walnut Ink Paris Ink Reinker . Punchinella was used as a mask with the Copper Maya Mist adding a mica rich shine and visual texture to the page. a piece of book paper was torn and attached using Sakura Hobby Crafts 3D Crystal Lacquer . The letters were trimmed to rectangles out of the Tag Alphabet Collage Sheet. The fleur de lys and the commemorative scout stamp were trimmed out of the ...
