Only recently have I read about Frida Kahlo one of Mexico's most famous artists.  Just in her teens she suffered injuries from a bus accident that would cause health issues her whole life.  She was famous for her self portraits showing the pain she suffered. Her marriage was turbulent at times. Her art was an expression of herself and life.  A beautiful and compassionate woman, she died in 1947 at the young age of 47.  There is so much to learn about the life of Frida, I plan to pick up her biography and read more about Frida the artist soon. Happy Friday everyone.  My project this week allowed me to get messy, happy, painty fingers!  How?  I made several monoprints with my gel plate for the under-the-sea theme of today's card project.  The prints are in a variety of beautiful blues, greens and purples.  Lost Coast Designs has the most awesome background stamp which gave great motion to the "water".  A couple stamps from the Mailbox Muse mermaid kit complete the scene. Let's start at the beginning.  Grab your favorite colors of paint and add them randomly to the gel plate.  Then grab your brayer and lightly blend them across the entire plate.  Use your favorite texture tools or fingers to make random designs, if you wish.  You can get more than one print each time without having to add more paint.  Caution: it is addicting!  I made prints for over an hour for this project. Skeletons are perfect birthday card fronts for special people; like this one for Betty. Here are the items I used for my creation: Lost Coast Design Stamp    Gel Print    Paper    Ink and Paint    Embellishments    Collage Images and Text    Stencil    Using one of my gel prints with a lot of texture... ... I stamped the image with Stazon ink. Using a stencil I layered Pan Pastels: Using the fabulous images AlteredPages.com has, I inked a quote and cut it up and trimmed around another transparent image: Then I layered everything from mediums, paint, inks, paint pens, etc... Hello again from Jen.  I have to say I love playing with my Lost Coast stamps!  The minute I saw this set all I could think of is Halloween. Now I will admit, these are probably not Halloween stamps but for me they are certainly strange enough to fit the theme. In my world, every day is Halloween. Have I mentioned I LOVE Halloween? You get the idea. So, I made some little tags to remind me just how much I love, well you know... These tags strung together, make a sweet hanging decoration but you could leave them separate and use them on gift or treat bags as well.
