STENCILS X 3

I thought of Primary and the idea was born.   Primary colors = 3.   I challenged myself to use THREES for the project.    White cardstock base had 3 acrylic paints applied with 3 STENCILS .    I also used three applicators, Brush , Brayer , and  Spouncer .   Three washi tapes were incorporated and finally accented with black and white pens in three of each color circles.  Simple and satisfying! Crafters Workshop reminds me that Tools are so important (read on to find some creepy details)

The Crafters Workshop has been our Muse this month with some stunning results!  I have been reminded just how important the correct tools are to aid our creativity. The Crafters Workshop stencil I used on the canvas above is Distressed Details, (design - Art by Marlene) using the circular portions of the various images with TCW clear modeling paste. My work table is covered with tools and I have my trusty Ikea rolling cart beside me at all times.   I wanted to share some of my go-to items with you today. When it comes to most any artwork a great pair of scissors is a MUST.   I can't say enough good things about the KAI scissors (on sale).  Perfect for any paper cutting, fancy cutting, rubber cutting, with BIG comfortable finger holes & sharp pointed blades.   Mine are 7 years old and still perfectly fine, as sharp as the day I began using them.  Trust me. they get a workout! When I need glues , I have a few fa...

WELCOME The Crafters Workshop

Thanks to The Crafters Workshop for partnering with us this month. Jaime Echt and her team do amazing projects and we are proud to create with them.  Thanks to Cheryl Boglioli, The Crafters Workshop Design Team and Education Coordinator for leading the efforts to make October memorable. I wanted to show you how simply you can get amazing results with acrylic paint and a Crafters Workshop stencil.  This stencil is an original design by   MARLENE MEIJER-VAN NIEKERK, Floating City. I was fortunate to purchase a Class Package when I went to CHA last January.  Did you know that Crafter Workshop has an amazing line of mediums and paints too?  The color names make me hungry;  grape jelly,  orange slice ,  blueberry pie, raspberry sorbet, blue jellybean, lemon custard to name just a few.  I know one of my main Art issues is to be freer and overcome the OVERTHINKING of projects.   I decided to let the art...

Gel Press Coaster set

Hello from the UK! This is my design team project for  Altered Pages Gel printing coasters was so much fun. I wanted a kind of animal/tribal type of look and this is how it went. I took some card coasters that were old charity shop finds to alter, and used them as a base. Any thick card would also work. I covered four of them in Gesso and left to dry and chose four paint color's , including black white, brown and metallic bronze. I covered the Gel Press with black and brown and brayered onto a piece of white cardstock. I drew swirls and patterns with the end of a paint brush and then printed onto the paper. I dried the layer and repeated the process adding more paint . After the last layer dried, I added more black and white and bronze laying it down quite thick in places. I pressed it lightly with my hands instead of the brayer and because the paint was still thick it created a great textured look. I us...
