Mixed Media Card Using Stencils

Spring is finally here!  Although it has still been cool, the sky is blue and sunny and the plants are beginning to stir.  In their honor I chose to work with blues and greens this week. I started with two gel prints which were made with the same paints.  One was more green and the other more blue.  In fact, one of the prints is even on blue paper.  I cut them both into 1" strips.  I wanted an uneven mosaic so I used one long piece and 6 shorted pieces of various lengths.   Each of these pieces had the edges darkened with green ink so that they would all blend together.  It also hides the fact that the card stock of each print was a different color. I tried to get an even distribution of green and blue.  Double sided adhesive holds all of the pieces in place on the black card stock. I just bought to lovely stencils from Altered Pages and couldn't wait to use them!  I chose blue and gree...

Spring Equinox

Rebirth, Renewal and Refresh The  vernal equinox , also called the  Spring Equinox , marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, occurs on Tuesday, March 20 at 12:15  P.M. EDT.  On this day, the Sun rises due east and sets due west. In the Southern Hemisphere, this date marks the  autumnal equinox . Spring is associated with rebirth and renewal, therefore Easter is such an iconic Holiday.  The Easter date travels as it is based on the approximate time of the   Jewish Passover,  which was celebrated on the first   full moon   following the vernal equinox. This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates. At the end of the 2nd century, some churches celebrated Easter on the day of the Passover, while others celebrated it on the following  Sunday . Flowers play such an important role for Spring and Easter, that is why I chose to create a floral stenciled project this week.  ...

SPRING has Sprung!

Happy Sunday to all! We got in the Spring mood and made this lovely Spring decor piece to celebrate the season of fresh, renewed, happy colors and a desire for sunny days! We started with a blank wooden die cut.   You could choose paper from the wonderful USArtQuest selection of fabulous papers, gluing some Mica DeLites with PPA (Perfect Paper Adhesive) directly onto the paper for a subtle shimmery background.  In this case, I had a lovely paper from Robin's Nest.   This paper was set aside to dry while we painted the wood with some Dixie Belle Chalk Paints  - color buttercream.    The next step was to paint and add Mica DeLites to small wooden die cuts of flowers and butterflies.   Allow them to dry as well.    Next, glue the small shape pieces onto the face of the sign, placing them to create an eye appealing layout. The SPRING wood diecut allows all that sparkle from the Mica DeLi...

DIY Design Studio, AlteredPages and Our Partner

March is USArtQuest Partner month at AlteredPages Hello to everyone on this fine Sunday! I was in the mood for Spring and found the perfect way to utilize AlteredPages, DIYDesignStudio and our partner, USArtQuest for a project. I began with my wood flower picture holder available at DIYDesignStudio.com.     The wood pieces are sanded and ready to paint or add papers and embellishments, high quality wood and MDF pieces make for fun decor and gifts. First I traced and cut paper for the front of the flower.  Before adding the paper, I painted the edges, I could have used inks or even an inkpad to color the wood.   I adhered the paper with PPA glue, edged with a yellow inkpad and added one of our darling spring flowers.   Then PPA* was brushed on the edges and Prills* were added to the glue.   *This universal acrylic adhesive and medium, has been extensively studio-tested on literally every type ...

Dare to Dream!

Hi Everyone it's Danie here again and I am following on a little from my last post which was titled Spring Butterflies .  Mainly because I had the supplies still on my desk; some butterflies cut out, spring colored paints still out, and my Eco Art Board ATCs were within reach. I decided I would use the ATC Art Boards as covers to an accordion style book and teamed all the supplies I had out with a mix of quote stamps with the theme of Dreams. A quote that actually came to mind which inspired me to use the butterflies with the Dream Theme was ‘Until you stretch your wings……..you’ll never know how far you can fly’ I started by taking a piece of A3 Watercolor Paper and cutting two strips from this the height of an ATC - 3.5 inches and then taking one of the ATC Art Boards I folded these around it, back and forth to form an accordion fold each fold being the width of an ATC - 2.5 inches.  There was a smaller piece left on each end.  I cut one of these off one pi...
