Chinese New Year is February 16th this year and it is the year of the DOG!  In my house, the dog is always King but this year that's true everywhere.   Altered Pages has a lot of great Asian images available for your art projects.  There is also a really pretty scrapbook paper design perfect for a Chinese New Year card which I backed with red card stock.  The final size of the card is a 5 1/2" square. I chose several images that I liked. Since it's the year of the dog, I made sure to include one little image of that Chinese symbol, too. The little swirl charm reminds me of the Chinese Dog mask and adds a nice little bit of dimension and shine. The Asian Ambience stamp set has this beautiful little fan which I stamped in VersaMark for a watermark effect on this scrap that was left over when I cut the card down to size. I included two different colors of Dew Drops and little drops of Stickles to the flower branch. Happy Chinese New Year e...

In a little over a week people around the world will be celebrating the Chinese New Year and the Color Red will be a predominant feature of such celebrations.  This year is that of the Earth Dog.   THE COLOR RED AND THE CHINESE NEW YEAR: For the Chinese Red is the  COLOR  associated with the element of Fire and is one of the luckiest of all colors.  It is their National color and represents happiness and good fortune. Both homes and businesses are adorned with red lanterns and it is a color widely used for weddings and other celebratory events.  During the Chinese New Year Celebrations and other special occasions Red Envelopes similar to those found here in store at Altered Pages are stuffed with money and given as gifts with the red packet symbolizing good luck. Have you joined in the Altered Pages Artsociates Challenge yet?  The latest theme is Chinese New Year.   Creating this piece for it reminded me just how much I love lots of layers of papers and images and paints and inks. You know, there are a lot of supplies available at Altered Pages, many you may not have considered or seen before--one of my favorite go-tos is the package of Text Pages , which has an amazing (and generous) variety  of languages and music, all original papers.  A newer favorite is the Niji Pearlescent Watercolors , which give a beautiful sheen to pieces like this. Hey everyone!   It's time for the Altered Pages monthly challenge again, and the theme for this month is Chinese New Year, or Year of the Horse.  I have been having so much fun with my Silhouette and my  Altered Pages  collages sheets that I had to make one more inspiration piece for you. I printed out  AP-2251 Year of the Horse collage sheet , as well as a mini 2014 calendar from the internet, die cutting and trimming, as shown.  Very simple.  Each of my images were edge distressed with  Mix'd Media Inx  in  Schoolhouse Red and Black.  Perfect!!!  And here is a close-up of those images. I always like to finish off the back of everything I make, well almost everything.  But have you noticed how people always turn your work over to see what is on the back, if anything?  Lesson learned, always finish off the back of your work, and don't forget to sign your work.  So here is the back ofmy banner.  More co...

Hi everyone! Becky here today to share a post that I have been meaning to get up for about a month now!! These pictures are of the altered box I did for a Chinese New Year swap some of the Yahoo Group members participated in earlier this year. SO! Here it is...This is the Year of the Dragon , so that was our theme for the altered boxes. I used a shadow box from an AP set & decorated the outside with scraps of Joss papers, a Chinese restaurant menu & other scrap. For the lid, I brushed on Tim Holtz's Distress Paint in Antique Brass pretty heavily to get some texture. Then I punched holes in the sides to slide the chopsticks in. Inside, I made a mini-accordian book that's attached to the box... I used images from 3 different Dragon collages to fill in the pages of the mini, as well as more Joss papers & scraps - including some fortunes I had saved! I think it turned out pretty cool & was a lot of fun to do! I sure hope my swap partner ...
