MD Hobby & Craft Upcycled Earring Holder

This month the Altered Pages Design Team is excited to be working with products from MD Hobby & Craft Today Karen Conner has create an upcycled frame she transformed into an earing holder using a MD Hobby & Craft metal sheet. Karen created a way to display her earrings with this beautiful MD Hobby & Craft metal sheet.  It will house frequently used earrings and still be pretty - like art. An old mat frame was upcycled to use with the metal sheet.  The mat got a base coat of  gesso , set aside to dry. Add dimension with texture paste and a stencil to the corners. The metal sheet cuts easily with a guillotine cutter, cut metal to the size needed to fit behind the mat.  Rub blue metallic wax paste with an old t-shirt over most of the metal sheet. Color the image from the   Altered Pager Ziegfeld Girls collage sheet with a q-tip ...

Karen Connor's Lovely Collage Project.

Mother's Day is coming up  and I've been making cards like crazy! AlteredPages collages have some of the best images to use! This image comes from 1731D Bits and Pieces .  When receiving a collage sheet, there are numerous images on one sheet.  What works the best for me is to resize and crop the images in "Paint". Works like a charm! For the base/bottom layer; I used a paint brush to rub gesso around the edges and then sprinkled extra fine glitter around the edge & allow to dry. Layering designer paper really gives depth and dimension. I wrapped a piece of seam binding around the postcard images after adding it to another piece of designer paper.   Add this later to the background with foam dimensionals or clear mounting squares .  Then added flowers around the edge. I did the same technique on the flowers -adding gesso with a paint brush and then sprinkling glitter on top of it while wet.   The corners...

Meet the Altered Pages Designers: KAREN CONNER

At Altered Pages we have a very talented Design Team!  We are proud to introduce you to one of our members KAREN CONNER!         Hi! My name is Karen Conner. I live in Southern Virginia. I just had a birthday-turned 54. I've been married for 35 years (to the same man!) We have one furbaby-a Shih tzu named Snickers. I have one son who married a beautiful young lady. They've blessed me with 2 wonderful grandchildren. In 2005 I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Bone cancer in my right bottom jaw. I spent a year in the hospital taking chemo. They took my jaw bone out and replaced it with a bone from my leg! What a miracle! God blessed me so much that year! I am now a 10 year cancer survivor! I've been crafting my whole life. In 2004 I went to my first Stampin Up party. I instantly fell in love with cardstock, punches, stamps and ink! Then I found YouTube! Oh my! What a world that opened up! In 2011 I joined my first design team-Wor...

A Wardrobe Altered for Storage

Today Karen Conner is sharing pictures of the wardrobe in her studio that has been repurposed for storage.  The wardrobe was built by my great uncle around 100 years ago using cedar off his farm.  My husband revamped it for one of my storage units. I have all my deco paints in the main section so I can easily reach them. A plastic storage box with  stencils on the upper level, a handmade basket with my finished cards, a square drawer box that holds all my envelopes (neatly labeled).  The bottom layer holds my many collected frames, an unfinished quilt, a tackle box with tools, beads, metal stuff. On the side I have a metal wire hanger attached to the wardrobe (was originally used for canned goods-bought at Lowe's) I store stamps.  On the top of the wardrobe is an old time storage cabinet. The legs were removed, then hoisted up onto the wardrobe. I keep things I recycle: file folders, clipboards, a...
