Playing with a Trending Art Process

Hey, let's just have fun and experiment!  We are going to play with a trending art form  that you may have seen a bit about;   String Art.  It is fun and easy and the results are pretty incredible. You will want to use a watery consistency of medium  as your "ink".   You can use diluted  acrylic paints, Gelatos or Splash inks .  You then s aturate pieces of  twine  in the colors of your choice.    I prefer using gloved hands for the next few steps.  Sometimes I like messy artsy looking hands, but I had literally just had my nails done this day and did not want to lose my French mani. ;-)  Now, lay the twine in a meandering pattern from the top to the bottom of your paper.  You can use an art journal , as I did here with my Dylusions journal, card stock or even a premade craft card .  You basically just need two pieces of paper to sandwich over your twine.  ...

Spring Butterflies

Hi Everyone!  Danie here with you today.........one of my favorite collage sheets from Altered Pages which I use often is called Beautiful Butterflies .  I just love butterflies they are such an inspiration in life and share so many beautiful messages.  One such message is that of transformation which is a message often shared by the Season of Spring so today I thought I'd combine the two together and play about in my large Dylusions Journal .                           Butterflies in flight - a scan to give you a close up of my journal page I got messy creating the background across two pages which started with me having all my butterflies cut out from the collage sheet and have a quantity of circles in two different sizes punched out from some cheaper white paper.  As I progressed however I decided to create on only one page leaving the background on the other for another day. I started ...

spritzy atc backgrounds with Stencil 1

Do your backgrounds ever need a little extra something?  I had some Gelli Plate monoprints that wanted a boost, and this eight pack (in my mind I call it an eight pack) of atc sized stencils from Stencil 1 was just the thing. The stencils separate, but I left the sheet whole, clipped it to the print, and gave it a spritzing with some Dylusions spray inks .  The paper on the left, below, is another print I used to pull the ink off the top of the stencil, kind of like a print, and basically the stencil in reverse: The result? A variety of backgrounds perfect for atcs,, ready to be cut to size and put to use: Altered Pages and Stencil 1 Update--here are two of the four atcs I've finished so far.  Same image, but I thought it would be fun to see the different effect of the backgrounds: Each of the atcs, plus some fun little extras, are up for the giving away of at THIS BLOG POST . Thank you for stopping by today, and happy creating to you! :)tris...

Let your dreams take Flight Journal Page

Hi Everyone it's Danie here with you all today!  As you know this month we are cross promoting with the Leaky Shed . When I saw the cute chipboard kites from the Leaky Shed that arrived for us to use this month, I knew I wanted to use them in my journal and came up with the following journal page - Let your Dreams Take Flight. Using my large Dylusions Journal I began by prepping my page with Gesso and then simply spritzed some Dylusions Ink in spots across the back before adding some torn paper from the Glitz Uncharted Waters Paper Collection.  Other layers of pattern and color were added with various blue tones of Gelatos and Stencils (Honeycomb 12 x 12 and Tile Texture 6 x 6) from the Crafter's Workshop. I then got out my Dylusions Around the Edge Border Stamps and my Midnight Blue Staz On Ink Midi and stamped around the edges with the scallop border stamp and randomly across the background with the circle strip.  Some of these stamped areas I then ad...

Adding a Touch of Color for a Male Birthday Card!

Did you ever have a old photo or a black and white collage image that you felt would look better if it had just a touch of color?  It may be that you think a touch of rose was needed in your great great grandmothers cheeks, or you want a particular detail to stand out more than the others.  Whatever the reason if you want to add a touch of color then you should try this. This month Altered Pages is cross promoting the  Niji Waterbrush Pen  from Yatsumoto  and it features in the technique I am about to share for adding a touch of color. Taking a Niji Waterbrush and any water soluble color medium you have on hand, for instance Gelatos , Water Color Pencils or my favorite (because of the wonderful shimmer) the Niji Pearlescent Water Color Paints.  Pick up a small amount of color on the wet brush and add to your photo/image. There are so many wonderful collage images available at Altered Pages.  For my project today (a male birthday card...
