MD Hobby and Craft goes STEAMPUNK!

MD Hobby and Craft Metal Sheet Roll is perfect for your Steampunk projects.  I wanted to try putting it through my die-cutting machine.  I worked perfectly, once I got the shims correct. The dies cut through the metal sheet just like paper!         Carefully cut pieces of metal from the 12 in x 30 in roll, just large enough for your die.  I was able to cut the metal with a regular pair of scissors.  For the card I die-cut two small gears and one large gear.      Pictured above the dies just before adding the shims and running through the die-cutting machine.     Gears Cut from MD Hobby and Craft Metal Roll.         Color the metal foil gears with Gilders Paste and irRESISTible spray, set aside to dry.     Stamp image on pattern paper, layer on black card stock with glue stick. Adhere to brown card base w...

True Love Stories... Mixed Media ATB

By now I'm sure you know that the AP team is sharing projects created using DecoArt products during the month of January.  I am so happy and excited about this as DecoArt has a newer product line called DecoArt Media which is an entire line dedicated to mixed media artists. I decided to start off by making an Artist Trading Block ... I used several products from the Media line and thought I'd share a bit about each....   I started off by gluing down my vintage text and collage images to the block using DecoArt Media Matte Medium .  It can be used as a collage glue, photo transfer medium, a clear ground and more. The consistency of this medium is very nice - it's slightly thicker than most of the thinner "white glue" like collage glues on the market which makes it far easier to control and I found it to be less messy.  I love the matte finish - it's great as a "clear gesso" and doesn't dry "slick" or glossy like ...

Steampunk Altered Trading Block Tower

As you know this month Altered Pages has partnered with The Artists on the Block to share our Altered Trading Block creations using Eileen Hull's Sizzix Block dies . I was so excited because ATB's are so much fun, like an ATC on steroids! I knew immediately that I wanted to make a Steampunk theme block because AP offers so many great collage sheets that can be paired with that theme... so I got started and just couldn't stop at one! I ended up making a whole tower of ATB's! The bottom block was painted then covered with pieces from a glassine envelope that I disassembled, inked and stamped.  The center block was painted black and a different "Frankenstein Experiment" diagram was affixed to each side.  The top block was painted then I added torn bits of cork here and there.  I then applied Duo Adhesive to all the corners and sprinkled on metal leafing flakes. After all of the blocks were dried I cut out and applied various images and lab...
