Red White and Bunco!

I was going to show you some wood pieces for Fall but...... Instead, I got caught up making a centerpiece for my Bunco gathering this weekend.   Since we are so close to July 4th, I chose a patriotic theme.      I first tried to use the deco mesh on the glass dollar store candles which is so festive... but that was a DIY DON'T.  The mesh stretches and i simply could not get it into place evenly. .   so I ripped it apart and started over I had a few red white and blue ribbons on hand and they worked nicely. I have a galvanized metal tray that matches a drink dispenser and some other serving pieces, AHA.  I will use that deco mesh after all as the base for the candles.   I will tie the stars and stripes ribbon to the handles and added some dollar store stars for fun.   I hope your weekend is relaxing. See more of the wood projects by the team. Thanks to our partner this ...

Creating a VELADORA with Altered Pages and Sabor Papel

Today I have a veladora to share with you. You may know that veladoras are traditional candles used to symbolize prayers, vows of prayer, or simply honoring God or one of His Saints. They are also used in Day of the Dead celebrations. This one was created using the Sabor paper La Guitara, not because of the guitars, but because on the opposite side is the birthday song, Las Mañanitas, which is generally sung in the morning to wake the birthday boy or girl, and of course before eating cake! Translated to English, the lyrics are something like this: This is the morning song that King David used to sing. Today being the day of your saint, we sing it to you. Wake up my dearest, wake up, see now that the day has dawned the sparrows are singing, the moon has finally set. How lovely is this morning, when I come to greet you we all come with joy and pleasure to congratulate you. The very day you were born all the flowers first bloomed and in the baptismal font all the nigh...

that warm glow . . .

I love candles, even during the summer, but there's something especially charming about that warm glow during the cooler fall months.   Here is a collection of various glassware, altered to be used as candle holders, featuring Altered Pages collage images, Vintage Text pages   and more.  (If you've been around for a while, you may remember them from Altered Arts Magazine .) You can probably tell these were pretty simple to make--just break out all the Altered Pages collage goodies and trims , and start gluing ! What's harder to see is that when the candles inside the holders are lit, the yellowed pages from the Vintage Text Pages, and the warm reds from the collage images, give off a really pretty glow.   (You can almost see what I mean, here  with the large altered vase )     Supplies: Glassware & Candles Vintage Text pages Collage images Burlap Flowers Bingo markers   Corrugated cardboard Trims...

Boho Chic Lantern

Hi everyone and welcome back to the fun happening here at Altered Pages while we partner up, during the month of June, with Imagine Crafts and Tsukineko.   Today, I have for you a boho chic diy candle lantern made with products from both  Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko  and Altered Pages . For this project I used my StazOn Midis to add color and dimension to various sizes of sheet metal. I also used charms, chain and hand dyed seam binding to create the look I was after. A very important step in colorizing metal with StazOn is to always use GlazOn. StazOn...GlazOn. They go together! Apply your desired color of StazOn ink to the sheet metal remembering to cover the surface with GlazOn after and let each layer dry before moving on to the next. If you so choose you can easily add your favorite collage images sprayed with Goosebumps to give that embossed and textural look. Just hole punch and add a jump ring...
