Day of the Dead (or All Saints Day)

Day of the Dead ~ Día de los Muertos                    Always in Love   by Robin Horasanian  Collage # 3135  & Sabor Day of the Dead has been celebrated in Mexico on November 1 & 2 for as long as can be remembered.  We as artists enjoy the holiday as an opportunity to create colorful and happy art.  Even though the name might imply sadness, it is a happy celebration.   Read all the way down to see truly fun projects done by our team and to learn a bit more about the Holiday. Dia De Los Muertos

The Design Team and yes, including across the pond,  has been having fun with spooky creations.  This journal page was created using scraps stamps, paint and the colorful Altered Pages collage sheet DAY of  the DEAD downloaded from Altered Pages.  June Mac had a great time with our collages.  Stay tuned for stenciling! Supplies: Altered Pages collage sheet DAY of  the DEAD Acrylic Paint Ink The collage sheet was printed on copy paper. Fussy cut the image of the skulls and the Dia De Los Muertos banner from the Altered Pages collage sheet DAY of  the DEAD   The sentiment 'Bite me' (from my stash) was stamped with black ink on white paper, then ink the edges.  With a dry paintbrush, stippled page with blue acrylic paint. Thanks to our partner this month...

Sabor Amor Shrine

Here is the ingredient list I chose to cook up this awesome sauce: Sorpressa Sabor Papel    Ramitos Sabor Papel    Sabor Amor Cutouts    La Boda Red Rubber Stamp    Mariachi Red Rubber Stamp   Arched Shrine   Gelatos   Gelatos-Mediums Textural Accents   Embossing Powder   Stickles   Stazon Ink   Resin Molded Flowers   Aqua-Flo Water Brush   Art Anthology Dimensional Paints   Dimensional Adhesives   Aleene's Tacky Glue    Tissue Paper Thin Wire for Spring Scrap Plastic Let's see what I have to work with: Stazon was used to stamp the bride and groom onto a piece of scrap plastic. The shrine needs to be scored in the front and back at the...

Dia de los Muertes

We are honored to have  Susanna Schwab   join Altered Pages  for  dia de los Muertes History and Art     Dia de los Muertes History   More than 500 years ago, when the Spanish Conquistadors landed in what is now Mexico, they encountered natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. It was a ritual the indigenous people had been practicing at least 3,000 years. A ritual known today as Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The ritual is celebrated in Mexico and certain parts of the United States, including Arizona. Celebrations are held each year in local communities and at Arizona State University. Although the ritual has since been merged with theology, it still maintains the basic principles of the Aztec ritual, such as the use of skulls. Today, people may don wooden skull masks called calacas and dance in honor of their deceased relatives. The wooden skulls are also placed on altars that are dedicated to the dead. Suga...
