Watery Inky Color Ways

With so many color products on the market its always fun to play and see what you can do with them, and sometimes keeping it simple can achieve great results.  The past few weeks I have been planning a collaboration art retreat for a small group of crafters with a friend.  Our theme is Exploring the Secrets of the Deep, as we are heading to the beach for a week of art and nurturing our souls, so with Mermaids in mind, I decided to create some watery backgrounds I can use in my journal . I grabbed a variety of color products in watery tones that I know either react with water or are water soluble, such as my Radiant Neon Inks , Gelatos , Splash Inks and Dylusions Spray Inks.   You could also use really watered down Acrylic Paints, Pigment Based Ink Pads or even Markers.  Next I grabbed my non stick craft mat but if you don't have one of these you could simply use a piece of plastic such as a protector page. By adding color to the craft matt, ...

Feeling Groovy!

When I saw our theme for this month was Peace, Kindness and Love how could I resist a groovy 1970s theme project?  I was young in the 70s.  It was the decade where I was old enough to start choosing my own clothes, friends and music!  I don't remember any of the "adult" issues that were faced because I was so young, but I do remember the bursts of color everywhere! Designs for Front I've got a groovy little pocket page project to share with you.  I chose Altered Pages collage images based on a bright color palette.  Although they aren't all technically from the 70s, I think they give you the same feeling. There are a lot of different ways to begin this project.  A pocket page is basically 9 little mini works of art in a collection, with embellishments, notes and you can even work in a surprise or two.  I like to start my pages with a single large collage cut into 9 pieces.  It allows for a nice even distribution of colors and texture...

Textured Seed Packets with IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko

Hi everyone it's Danie here today.  I love playing with color so when I received the fabulous Radiant Neon Inks from IMAGINE Crafts I knew they would soon be one of my favorite inks to play with. Today I have a decorative seed packet for you which makes a perfect way to enclose and give a gift card or you can fill it with anything you heart desires.  This one was designed with an upcoming seed packet swap in mind. After cutting out my Seed Packet I used Gel Medium with a stencil to create some texture. Once this was dry I sponged color over the packet using three colors of Radiant Neon Inks. The colors brought out the stenciled design fabulously. I then decorated further with some torn music score paper, resin flowers, and stamped phrases all of which were also colored with the Radiant Neon Inks to coordinate with my packet before finishing with some collage butterflies and doodling with a black pen. Supplies Used: Seed Packet (Template downloaded off th...

Do dragonflies dream of Neon?

Don’t you love fresh, new ink pads?   They are full of new possibilities.  These IMAGINE Craft / Tsukineko Radiant Neon ink pads come in a bright rainbow of colors and they are fun!   Altered Pages is partnering with this wonderful company in June.  I was playing around with these colors and wanted to see how they looked on black paper.   Most inks soak into the black and are difficult to see.   I sponged a little yellow on the scrap and an idea was born.   Using a card-sized panel of plain white cardstock, I tore V-shaped area out of the bottom to act like a template.   Then I sponged in layers of Electric Yellow, Electric Orange and Electric blue in an arc pattern.   A spiral foam stamp from my collection was used to stamp the sun and more Electric Yellow was sponged in to it   to make it a solid shape.   A Q-Tip was used to draw in the sun's rays.  After removing the paper template, I sponged some Elect...

My first weekly item is a monoprint collage.   I played with fun foam and RADIANT NEON ink pads.   I liberally coated the fun foam with RADIANT NEON ink several times in two colors (electric orange and electric yellow). I also added the Delicata Gold Glitz reinker simply dropped onto the fo...
