Rebirth, Renewal and Refresh The vernal equinox , also called the Spring Equinox , marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, occurs on Tuesday, March 20 at 12:15 P.M. EDT. On this day, the Sun rises due east and sets due west. In the Southern Hemisphere, this date marks the autumnal equinox . Spring is associated with rebirth and renewal, therefore Easter is such an iconic Holiday. The Easter date travels as it is based on the approximate time of the Jewish Passover, which was celebrated on the first full moon following the vernal equinox. This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates. At the end of the 2nd century, some churches celebrated Easter on the day of the Passover, while others celebrated it on the following Sunday .
