Today I have for you a mixed media piece  featuring a  feather stencil. This project started with a substrate of cardboard.  (actually it is about a 9x10 inch piece of ceral box)  With matte medium, I adhered scraps of patterned paper, vintage music sheet  and inked up vintage text pages to the cardboard.  Then, I gave the whole piece a thin coat of  gesso. Next, I used a flower stencil and added a bit of texture with white acrylic paint.  Then came time to  ink it up. This piece basically used all the same steps.   This was a smaller piece of cardboard, gesso, a feather stencil with  modeling paste and inks.  I felt it needed a bit more dimension so I added a vintage text page flower that I made previously.  The colors were spot on and I had the perfect  feather giant gem  for the center of my flower.    I just happened to have a few chip board peacock fea...

Have you ever found yourself inspired by the tiniest thing and just cannot rest until you express it?!?  Yep, same here.  I loved the concept of using the backside (reverse) of the canvas--so much room for activities. Please don't kill me for posting a Christmas project before Halloween! Jess  here with a fun upcycle project for you. I have gotten a jump start on my holiday crafting and hope to inspire you to start too.  There are some many awesome images available from Altered Pages for your Christmas craft projects.  For this vintage tart tin ornament, I chose the kitten image from the  50's Christmas shee t. I punched the image out using my circle punch and set it aside. I used an awl to hammer a hole in the hop and a hole in the bottom of the tart tin .  I put a jump ring in each hole to make my hanger and the tassel. To make the hanger and tassel I dyed my  seam binding  by using my various  sprays .  I also took some bits of vintage lace to add extra interest.  I tied a single bit of seam binding though the top jump ring and just knotted it to secure it.  For the tassel I pulled the bits of seam binding and lace though the jum...

Aloha, it's Gia here. Today I am sharing a 6 x 6 mixed media piece I did with a cheerful little palette of brightly colored Dylusions ink spray colors. Did you know that Altered Pages carries fifteen, yes ONE FIVE colors of dylusions inks in delicious colors like Cut Grass, Funky Fuchsia, and Calypso Teal? I would hurry as these popular products tend to sell out quickly....wait where did you go? Oh, you are headed to Altered Pages now? That's awesome- but at least come back so I can tell you about the versatile Dylusions stamps I also got to try out!  So, I started with cold pressed watercolor paper because I like to work with this texture and weight of paper even when not using watercolors. I masked off the area to be inked with painters tape and coated it with gesso first.
