Making a Splash!

Hi all! Becky here today to share a journal page I did for an upcoming class I am teaching at my daughter's elementary school...Using none other than the FABULOUS Splash Inks from Yasutomo!  "WHAT are Splash Inks?", you ask! "They are the best thing since sliced bread", I say! They are an ACRYLIC Ink that acts like a watercolor, but are waterproof when dry!! Plus, if you used other acrylic inks, they take FOREVER to dry! These don't! And the color is so vivid! PLUS, you can literally create 100's of colors with the FOUR colors that come in the set! There's a handy-dandy mixing sheet in the set to help you create so many wonderful colors! You can paint or make your own sprays with them too! The possibilities are truly endless! I started with a sheet of mixed media paper that I had applied a thin layer of gesso to. When dry, I brushed water across the page. Then I took the Magenta, Yellow & Blue inks from my Splash Ink set

Sunday in Soggy Arizona

Well Kids, it is a wet day in the sunny state of Arizona.    Last night we watched the most amazing light show from the patio, it was a musical performance from the heavens.   It cooled off and we took our seats for some amazing entertainment.   The kids are visiting and we discussed what thunder and lightning are.   Gabby's friend told her it is Bob the Wolf growling (and she never lies) and I told them about my Grama telling me it was the angels bowling in heaven. I told about my mother-in-law making everyone go to the basement when it was storming (NO, not in Kansas, in Pittsburgh PA).  Jake was far more scientific and explained it was electrical charges in the atmosphere.   To which Gabby said, does no one in my family have an imagination? how is this for inspiration? We tried to count the lightning but couldn't keep up with it, when we got to 60 in less than 30 seconds we stopped and just realized we were meant to simply enjoy it!    There must have been 1,00

beach babes

It's summer, and time for all things beachy--here is an atc I created for a swap, featuring an image from the Let's Go Wading page: you can see the shine of the glittery cardstock The background was made using a wash, a great effect you can achieve using Splash Inks .  This little cutie is apparently a favorite of mine, she was also featured on the cover of this beach themed tag book: The Summer By The Sea tag book directions and supplies are now available as a summertime kit at Altered Pages--you can have a look inside HERE . Don't like saltwater or sand between your toes?  Maybe dreamy summer nights are more your style?  If so, be sure to check out the July Altered Pages Challenge, Dreamy Nights .  The prize package this round includes a beautiful Paris Trunk Ink Pad, a 6x6 stencil, and a handy Scissor Mouse. So, what are YOU dreaming about this summer? :)trisha

Five Little Pencils

Happy Friday everyone~! I wanted to share with you the fun I've been having with the five little pencils in the Faber-Castell Floral Gallery Kit. This is a great kit to introduce you to watercolor pencils and watercoloring on canvas. It comes with a terrific instruction booklet that goes through various techniques that you can use with these pencils. It includes 4 pre-drawn boards for you to color and also a "practice" palette board to experiment with the colors.  Following the directions in the book on getting a range of colors from the five pencils, I proceed to test drive the colors in a traditional manner. I colored lightly and with more vigor onto the rectangles of the canvas and then applied water to my brush [included in the kit] and activated the pigment that I had laid onto the canvas. [first two rows above]. Then I proceeded to see what colors I could create with the 5 pencils I had. I was impressed at the range of colors with just adding equal parts of

Bohemian Cats At Play

Aloha, Gia here with some cards I made using the following Altered Pages products: Graphic 45 Bohemian Bazaar 8 x 8 pad AP#1032 Collage Sheet Cats at Play I am sure you are wondering how I came up with this particular combination so I will not keep you in suspense a moment longer. These cats are from Prague, the region of the Czech Republic where Bohemians actually come from. They also happened to be artists, musicians, and free spirits who hate conforming to such mainstream values as striving to earn money.  They tend to be fiercely independent and a bit cynical, but they enjoy a good frolic on the tennis court- since they come from mostly affluent or middle class families. I personally have never met a cat who wasn't a Bohemian, but I understand there are all types. In conclusion, here are the top 3 things that make me smile: 3. Bohemian Cats 2. Bohemian Bazaar paper and (drumroll please) 1. Art supplies from Altered Pages! Keep on creating! xo Gia

Oriental Dreaming

Hi Everyone!  It's Danie here today.  Are you a lover of all things Oriental.  I am!  There is just something about the tranquility, wisdom and  beauty of this culture that draws me in.  I collect Oriental Themed ATC's and today thought I would share with you a couple of Note Cards I have made using the wonderful background collages and oriental inspired images from Altered Pages. The Collage Sheets I have used for this include AP-2118 Year of the Dragon AP-2205 Chinese Cherry and Bamboo AP-460 Japenese Text AP-314 Geisha AP-1724 Collage Backgrounds Oriental Japenese Yuzen/Washi Papers and Graphic 45 Papers from the Birdsong Collection have also been used on these cards.  I had the Japenese Papers already in my stash, but Altered Pages sells these also in their Asian Dream Pack here .  Cherry Blossoms and Dragonflies are one of my favorite things related to this culture.  To the Japanese the Cherry Blossom symbolizes  the transient nature of life w

JULY CHALLENGE IS UP!!

This month's challenge is up on the challenge blog!  The theme is  Dreamy Nights .  Click the link to join us!!  There will be a prize!! Here is what I made for the challenge. I started with my Gelli Plate  (the best tool in the universe!!) to get the black paint on a cardstock tag.  I glued some gauze to the tag so it would look like a cloud. Then, I used the collage sheet  Once in a Blue Moon  to put the full moon on top.  To get the glitter and silver on the tag I used a  Wink of Stella  pen.  This is AMAZING!!!  I got that wonderful silver AND that lovely glitter on the bottom from the same pen!!  Not 2 different sides, one pen, one brush side, all in one!!  Here is what Jean Moore, the Altered Pages.com owner, had to say about it: " They REALLY WORK! Perfect for writing AND adding controlled glitter to your projects. The Nylon brush tip produces thick and thin lines allowing artistic freedom. Archival Quality" The store has 4 colors to choose from, Gold, S

Here's Your Sign

Happy Friday everyone! leslierahye here making you a "Welcome" sign that can be added to your entry way for the fall. I love crafting for seasons and these colors say fall to me. I began by printing on white card stock Ornate Alphabet Collage Page AP-1031 in two sizes [this can be done with your picture programs that let you print pre-determined sizes for photos--I used the 8×10 and the 5×7 sizes. Then I used my Spectrum Noir to color in the vines and flowers on the letters spelling Welcome. I fussy cut around the letters for my sign. The piece of wood I coated with purple and stenciled on vines using the Mini Capricious stencil from Crafter's Workshop. Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage served as a sealant before I started adding my letters. It worked perfect as a glue and a sealer enabling me to remove some of the layers of my finishing with a damp cloth. I added metal pieces, Silk Sari Ribbons and Dollar Store Silk Flowers with Beacon Fabri-Tac and Misted the flowers an

Happy July 4th!

I originally planned to post some cards I made with the new Graphic 45 line I ordered from Altered Pages -Bohemian Bazaar. But then I realized I would be posting on Independence Day! I decided to post something more patriotic today and save my Bohemian Bazaar cards for my next post (make sure you stop by again in 2 weeks.) I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July! To make this decoration I used a piece of burlap fabric over a piece of plain chipboard cut in the shape of a banner. I also used the following Altered Pages products: 1. Collage Sheet   Dans La Mer 2. Glitz Designs Patterned Card stock 6 x 6 Pad  ( Yours Truly ) 3. Vintage Text Pages 4. Tag Alphabets xo Gia Lau
