Lady with a Bird in Her Hat

In the late 1800's "Women's hats were decorated with wings, breasts and whole birds. According to Harper's Bazaar , in 1875 the merle, or blackbird, was a favorite, and especially the merle bronzé, a Brazilian blackbird, which was not black, but had blue and bronze shades on its wings and back." - Source Victoriana.com No birds were harmed to create this hat!!!  The tag is created with two  Altered Pages  Collage Sheets:  Bits of Paris  and  Colorful Birds . Fairies

If you love fairies you need to check out all the Altered Pages Fairy collage sheets ! I fell in love with fairies as a young girl. My mother would tell us not to pick the flowers in the garden as they were home to fairies.  We had one of the most beautiful gardens in the neighborhood! Cut card stock and Glitz background paper to size. Use chocolate ink to distress edges of Glitz paper.  Adhere ribbon to the Glitz sheet and layer on the ivory card stock Fussy cut the roses from a second sheet of the background paper and fussy cut fairy. Adhere wings, fairy and layer roses on the card.  Add a gem to the flower on the fairies head. Altered Pages Supplies: Background paper from the 6x6 Glitz Paper Pack Hello Friend Fairy from the AP collage sheet 1060D Fairy Dolls My stash: Ribbon, wings and gem. Base card and Ivory card stock

Believe it or Not, this ATC started out as a block of wood!! Yes, you can purchase  Artist Trading Blocks here at Altered Pages. They are a lot of fun since you have four sides and a top to work with.  To start paint the block with gold craft paint. Cover the side with  French Kiss Glitz Paper . Get the images you would like to use on your ATC, for this one images are from: Color ATC Pink Valentines of Nations ATCs Paris    This fussy cut lady was actually on a Valentine, a few feathers were added to her hat. On the sides with the ladies there are few gems in the lower right. A little netting was added to the hat behind the big bow of this lady.  The Eiffel Tower is from the  French Kiss Glitz Paper  pack.   The Leaky Shed Fancy Keyhole can be found at Altered Pages HERE ! An Old Fashion Valentine!

It is time to make some  old fashioned Victorian Valentines! Give a special someone in your life a handmade Valentine! With lace, paper doilies, glitter and a sweet image. Did you know,  Valentine's Day reached its height of celebration during the Victorian Era?  Or that some Valentines were so thick with layers of paper and embellishments they were given in presentation boxes.   The image for this Valentine is from the Victorian Valentine collage sheet. It was first adhered to a thin piece of chipboard  (about the thickness of a cereal box) and then  fussy cut.  Also cut a heart from the chipboard slightly smaller than the largest doily.  Adhere the large  doily to the chipboard, glue lace around the backside edge of the chipboard. Add lace around the backside of the smaller heart.  Attach smaller heart to the larger heart. Use a black marker and carefully edge the fussy cut images.   Attach  la...

Let Me Read Your Palm!

Thank you Jean for inviting me to be a member of this awesome Design Team!  I love collage and am excited to work with the wonderful products Altered Pages has to offer. My inspiration was the beautiful image of the lady above, found on this  P aris Collage Sheet !! This collage is created on a Manila Tag . First, paint a light blue wash with   Pearlescent Watercolors . Once it was dry use a brown ink  and stamp swirls, then ink the edges of the tag and image and ink a vintage white paper doily and white lace.  With a fine pen write "Let me read your palm" on the image. Adhere the doily, lace and image. From my personal stash I added the feather, chipboard palm, heart rhinestone and feather  with Sakura Crystal Lacquer . Complete it with the finishing touches a bit of ribbon and glitter!
