Playin' Around with Watercolors

Today, I have a quick little post about all the options for you at  Alteredpages.com   if you love playing with watercolors like I do.  Whether you prefer  watercolor pencils ,  Gelatos  or a bit of shimmer like these  Niji paint sets , AlteredPages has you covered.  You can even paint right on  vintage music sheet  like I have done with this butterfly.      Or, use a more traditional approach with this  Prima watercolor pad  like I did with my little cactus friend below.  This piece is not quite finished.  I need to decide what this guy is sitting on...maybe a potting bench or maybe in a garden.  We will see, but for now he is just kind of floating around.   I love to make little pieces like these and send them off to family and friends.  They make great little memories for sharing.   So, give our watercolor supplies a try for yourself and make some...

Steampunk Grumpies Goggles Journal Band/Bookmarker

This month I have had fun playing with a digital stamp. I am relatively new to them and find that they are super because you can resize them to suit your needs. I love the crisp look and find the Smeared Ink Steampunk Grumpies line filled with fun characters. I selected Steampunk Grumpies Goggles for my character. I decided a long time ago I wanted a book mark for my art journal. I dislike the cover that is more an advertisement for the company who produced it so I use the cardboard side as my cover. Well now my little buddy will have a great home holding my place as I work…. Supplies: Steampunk Grumpies Goggles Watercolor water brushes Watercolor Colored Pencils Royal & Langnickel Sari Silk Ribbons canvas inkjet fabric for printing (have on hand) Aleene’s glue elastic 1/2 inch wide (have on hand) Gold/ Bronze markers for background (on hand) Sewing machine (optional) Hot Glue (on hand) Chipboard (on hand)     Thank you for joining me! See you next month f...

Five Little Pencils

Happy Friday everyone~! I wanted to share with you the fun I've been having with the five little pencils in the Faber-Castell Floral Gallery Kit. This is a great kit to introduce you to watercolor pencils and watercoloring on canvas. It comes with a terrific instruction booklet that goes through various techniques that you can use with these pencils. It includes 4 pre-drawn boards for you to color and also a "practice" palette board to experiment with the colors.  Following the directions in the book on getting a range of colors from the five pencils, I proceed to test drive the colors in a traditional manner. I colored lightly and with more vigor onto the rectangles of the canvas and then applied water to my brush [included in the kit] and activated the pigment that I had laid onto the canvas. [first two rows above]. Then I proceeded to see what colors I could create with the 5 pencils I had. I was impressed at the range of colors with just adding equal parts of...

Have Paint, will Travel!

Hello! Becky here today & I am pooped!  I am in the middle of helping my husband's family with my mother-in-law's estate sale (she passed away last month). We are spending our days sorting through 50+ years worth of stuff & getting ready for a big garage sale this weekend. It's tiring, a bit overwhelming & a big eye-opener! (Don't collect too much stuff, because your kids & family will be the ones to go through it all in the end! Get rid of it now!!! Just sayin'! LOL!)  I knew that if I had ANY downtime that I would want to do something creative to renew my soul! What better way than to play with watercolors? As many of you know, I am usually an acrylic paint girl, but unless you know what colors you want to play with, it's kinda hard to travel with acrylics! But, I recently ordered some goodies from Altered Pages & along with it, Jean sent this great little Faber Castell Watercolor kit to play with! It's all self-contained:...

All Tangled Up for the New Year...

for this project you will need 4×4" Chipboard Squares Niji Pearlescent Watercolors Niji Waterbrushes Collage Sheets : Redoute II and Redoute III Pigma Micron Pens Paris Trunk Pad Walnut Brown gesso Process: 1. Gesso each Chipboard Square and set aside to dry. 2. With a mister, spritz the colors of the Niji Pearlescent WC that you wish to use--I find that pre-moistening the colors give them a fuller coverage. If you prefer the more sheer look then simply add water with your brush on the dry cake. Apply this shiny watercolor to your surface however you desire...I love the look of brushed splotches--almost dry brushed--and then speckles of color flicked from an old toothbrush. Set aside to dry. 3. use a template to trace letters or freehand letters on floral collage papers and cut out. Adhere letters to individual tiles. I used the letters of my word of the year B L O O M. 4. With Micron pens doodle/Zentangle® around the letters. This is my favorite par...

Those Little Four Letter Words!

Hi Everyone it's Danie here today with my first post here on the Altered Pages Blog.  So I thought I'd start with a little creation that gives you a bit of an insight to me! It's an ATC that says it all as I do have trouble with these four letter words - Cook, Wash, Iron and Dust.  They are all things I avoid doing until I really cannot anymore, because I'd much rather be in my craft room playing with the fun Altered Pages Collages sheets such as the one I have used for my project today.  Lucky for me I married a Chef and he is very supportive of my crafting.   I love making ATC's, bright colors and creating my own backgrounds.   Today's ATC Background is a quick watercolor wash with some sponged ink stenciling done with a piece of punchinella. You will see that I use punchinella a lot on my projects particularly to add texture to my canvases.  I have computer generated my quote.  All my edges have been inked with Vintage Sepia and Pin...
