This week I have been playing around with color.  Fall is inching closer and Michigan will be a flood of reds and golds in a few short weeks.  I love Fall colors and that's what I've used on this canvas. I started with a layer of gesso.   Right after the layer was complete, I dipped my brick stencil into the wet gesso to leave an impression. To better show the texture of the dried gesso, I smeared on a few light spots of Gelato to highlight the ridges. The entire canvas was covered with Dixie Belle's Grunge Glaze.  Since I was going with a Fall theme I felt like the brown in the glaze would be a good fit. The glaze interacted with the Gelato and gave me some different undertones.  Gelatos are water soluable so they are activated with paint just as easily as with water. I chose a few more Gelatos that reminded me of fall and used my finger to apply them in random spots on the canvas. Now to add some fun texture!...

Hello!  This month we are partnering with Lost Coast Designs . They have so many awesome, unusual, quality detailed stamps it's hard to choose. I however am a HUGE fan of Frida Kahlo and of course I jumped at the opportunity to do a project with this gorgeous stamp!  A little mixed media canvas piece for you to enjoy. Hello to everyone from Robin Horasanian Welcome to another March project highlighting the partnership between Altered Pages and USArt Quest this month.  Today I have a mixed media Steampunk canvas to share. These canvas art boards are already primed with gesso so they are ready whenever you are.  If you wish to tone down the canvas texture showing through your paint, you can add another layer or two of gesso before you begin.  I like the texture and actually wanted to add more.  I used Artist Cement to add random layers of swirls like I do when I frost cakes.  Then I sprinkled on a few Prills here and there and lightly pressed them into the paste. When that layer was completely dry, I coated the entire project in a layer of PPA (Perfect Paper Adhesive) to seal it.  I made sure to get a pool of the PPA around each of the Prills to help hold them in place.   USArt Quest has their own line of acrylic paints and there is a rainb...
