Showing posts with the label Acrylic Paint

Fall Colors come together.

I created this canvas on the spur of the moment.   I felt like the air would leave my body if I did not c reate. It started with an 8 x 8 canvas stretched on a wood frame.  I then added a decor paper to the entire piece with watered Aleenes glue as an adhesive medium. If you have ever used Golden Fluid Acrylics you understand my love for them.  This piece uses Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold and Interference Oxide Green.  The transparency allows an awesome depth of layering.  I also added Art Anthology Imperial purple allowing some to remain untouched, some with the interference overlay.   My fingers are always in use when creating and I love the uneven marks I can make.  I also used a jar dipped in the Azo gold for random circles.   I am not sure which context I like best.  I used an original stencil cut by me painted with a brush which gave me irregular coverage, allowing for more play ...

Spooky Upcycle

Today I have for you a quick upcycle  with big results!   Today's project began as an ornate ceramic frame.   The focal point of the frame was a 3x3 inch tumbled marble tile.  The tile originally had an old world, Tuscan style wine label on it.   It was beautiful, but it just did not match my decor any longer.  I adored the piece and could never part with it...so I gave it new life as Halloween decor.  Technically, I can give it new life again and again with any theme collage images from Altered Pages .   The frame itself is about a 11x11 inch square and is a couple inches deep.  So it is a great size, not too big, not too small.  And, it looks great sitting on a thick wrought iron easle.  I first used water diluted  Tacky glue to add a scrap of torn  vintage music sheet .  I then aged the music sheet a tad more using  sepia toned ink   & my Ranger Blending...

Building Backgrounds for ATC's

Happy April Everyone!  Thanks for joining me.  This month Altered Pages  is sharing ATC's and t oday, I am going to show you how I build a big background perfect for ATC's in a couple easy steps.  This background is perfect for ATC's, a future card or mixed media project.   And, it is just fun to play in all the decoupage and paint with no real rules.  This starts with a cereal box for my foundation.  I flipped it over and used the white side for my project.  Altered Pages has great ATC collage backs here .  I will just adhere these to the backs of my ATC's.  Next, I add torn vintage text pages and music sheets.  You can use any white glue for this.  I used Mod Podge.   Some of these pages had inks and color already added to them as they were left overs from other projects.   Then, I added fun colors in a random circle pattern using acrylic paints.  Most of the cool pattern above i...

Stencils and Modelling Paste

A while back I bought some second hand wooden wall  plaques. I painted them and put them aside. This week I dragged one out to use for this project .  You could use the Altered Pages Slat Sign . I decided to go crazy and make a fabulous mixed media piece. I am happy with the end results.  I began by making  modelling paste. It was made with equal parts glue and paint (color does not matter - I used grey acrylic) and then mix in talcum powder until it has the consistency of modelling paste.  I used two stencils with the modelling paste to create patterns and rough texture on the plaque, let the paste dry overnight (or longer depending on where you live). I arranged and glued die cut gears , bead trims, gems, keys and clock face. Then painted with black acrylic paint. Three coats were necessary to get good coverage. When dry I painted with metallic  paints , letting it dry between coats of paint and ...

Stencil Profile!

March is STENCIL month here at Altered Pages!   Today I have a  profile!  When you are finished reading this post be sure to check out all the stencils at Altered Pages ! Dictionary definition: sten·cil ˈstensÉ™l/ noun plural noun: stencils 1 . a thin sheet of cardboard, plastic, or metal with a pattern or letters cut out of it, used to produce the cut design on the surface below by the application of ink or paint through the holes. "The use of stencils dates back over 37 thousand years, as evident in Neanderthal cave art found in Spain. These paintings are outlines of hand prints; it is theorized that Prehistoric man or woman would place their hand against the wall, and then blow finely crushed pigment around it. These stencils were accompanied by shapes from the natural world and daily life: animals, hunting scenes, and ritual all figure prominently." to read more visit the Alabama Chanin Journal I used  the "...

Vintage decor for the New Year

Hello, I hope you enjoyed the Christmas Holiday! Today, I have a sweet little vintage style lady done in tones of purple and green with a touch of paleness in her skin tone to represent the Winter, with the hope of Spring to come. I will also apologize, briefly, for the photo quality as my cell phone is my current camera. I just moved house and can not find the cable to my good one.. Go figure ;o)  Enjoy. Supplies:   Wooden hanger Lace and ribbon Doll head or Prima Arts and Relics Acrylic Paint Metallic rub Rhinestone cup chain Miscellaneous jewelry bits, but you need at least ONE bead cap . Adhesive     I am using a resin paintable piece Prima Arts and Relics , however you could use a china doll head, or even a large floral pin, cabochon, decorative wood piece or really, any kind of statement piece you can attach a bead cap to. Here, I begin my initial layout of how the pieces will go together. I painted the hanger wi...

A Journal Cover with The Crafters Workshop

Hello again! Today I am doing a simple traditional stencil technique to use on a journal cover. SUPPLIES: Journal substrate : This one is from my stash but there are a lot to choose from at AlteredPages.com Stencil : I used Balzer Designs 12 x 12 stencil "Trendy Images" from The Crafters Workshop Paper adhesive scissors Acrylic Paint White Gel pen or acrylic paint liner Embellishments Ribbon I have to admit, ever since I got this stencil, I knew I was going to use the eye image. Not that the others aren't cool, but that eye!!!  So, I had this little book cover and I don't collect autographs so I wanted to make it either into a junk journal or art journal. Well, I still haven't decided which, but I had to re-cover it to start.  Found this awesome hand-made paper in my stash and adhered it to the front of the cover. Using scissors, I cut around the paper after it was dry.  Here is the result. NOTE: if you have holes punched in your subst...
