Altered Tin Box

Love for All Ages  This was a fun project. I have a limited palette  of supplies and challenged myself to create! I am away from my studio as my family needed me urgently. So I threw my clothes in a bag and guess what I am away longer than expected. I feel confident that even with limited supplies that my AlteredPage Collage sheets help me express fun and get me away from the gloom! Please come and see my video and let me know if you create to get away from gloom and other things! I use my crafting time to work through so much! Supplies: tin box (on hand) Aleene's Tacky Glue Acrylic Paints brushes glitter cardstock Collage sheets:    "The One I Love"    "Lady Chatterley's Lover" Tissue Paper Raffia (on Hand)

Altered Box with Lace

I decided to make a little trinket box from an old make up box. Now unfortunately the first pictures did not turn out on my camera so I apologize for that. I will however, explain the process before I got to the stage of the first photo here.  An old cardboard make up box was used, but this would work on any box. I first covered in gesso. Then covered in scrunched up aluminium foil and left to dry. I used tacky glue to adhere it to the box. I then added a layer of tissue with tacky glue and left it to dry. A coat of gesso again to cover.  I found some chipboard and wooden shapes some fabric silk puffy stars from my stash and I  got to work arranging them how I  wanted them, then adhered everything with tacky glue and left to dry.  Next, I  took some lovely craft lace (mine was peach colored) any colour would be ok. I adhered with tacky glue to all the sides and left to dry.  The next stage was to pa...

Boxes and More Boxes, Talking Heads!

Have the Altered Boxes inspired you this week?    I have one I hope you will like.    I call her 'A Solid Thinker'.    I will show you the finished project next week.... The head is a sketch I drew on a small box and colorized using the Colored Pencil Tin set .   I also used   neon ink from Imagine Crafts.    I added words with  AlteredPages Words rotary stamper. She can be a bit hard headed and her line of sight is not so great.  BUT she is a solid thinker.   Stay Tuned for more creating and more PINK for October.

Victoriana Box (with a touch of steampunk)

Well, here is my first post as a new Design Team member at Alteredpages.com. I hope you enjoy this altered box project. Supplies: Matte Medium Ephemera pack Dew Drops - getaway Collage sheet   - Sepia Collage Scrapbook papers Fabric and paper flowers random box from my stash random other bits and pieces, metal gears , etc., from my stash Stickles Ribbon Gelatos Crackle glaze Ink pads After I had found a small box that I wanted to alter, I removed the cross bracing from it. Then I cut possible images from my collage sheet. I like to play around with composition so I cut out a few different ones. I never know for sure what I will end up using. In this picture you can see the cross bracing that was inside originally. At this point, I went through my paper stash and found some great leathery textured paper to use on the inside of the box. Use  matte medium to adhere the paper to the box. I also like to use the matt medium on top of the paper for...

"Would you like an adventure now?"

"Or would you like to have your tea first?"  (Peter Pan) I've started on decorations for an upcoming baby shower, and this baseball card box was the perfect thing for a tea chest. National Treasures 2009 The first step was a couple coats of Americana Chalk Paint (which of course I forgot to photograph, having too much fun painting, sorry about that!)  Chalk paint was perfect, because this box has a glossy finish, and honestly, if I can skip a step like sanding, that's all the better.  Next was a little Creme Wax to add a little antiquing and protect the paint: A collage image tea label adhered with matte gel medium , And the adventure/tea quote from Peter Pan, added to the inside: I like to think of it as a functional decoration.  That quote is also part of the baby shower invitations, so it really is perfect here.  Check back for more altered boxes all this month, and remember you can continue to submit ATCs for publication on the Altered...

"Private! Keep Out!" Skull Treasure Box

Every youngster deserves a private stash place. I rescued this kiddo tool box from a yard sale. This is a work in progress. Here are the supplies (so far): Discarded box Skull Stencil    Art Anthology Texture Paint   Black Gesso   Skull Ribbon   Red Ink Spray   I wanted to preserve the painted name. Too Precious...       Time to black gesso the first stencil layer...    We need some more to  scare away any trespassers.   Some red Art Anthology for the next layer... Awesome!!! I added some grey Art Anthology to hide the raw wood... I added some mineral powder for shading and red inked a skull ribbon...voila: Thank you for watching my treasure preservation. Join our awesome Design Team for more boxing fun this October. Ciao for now, -Trish Alger
