altered canning jar band ornaments

REUSE SCRAPS AND THROWAWAYS FOR PERFECT HOLIDAY DECOR  If you can or make jelly/jams, chances are you have a stash of canning jar bands lying about.  That's how I first came to make this type of ornament, years ago--a pile of slightly corroded canning jar bands with a really fun altered looking patina needed a new job!  So simple--just trace the circle and cut an Altered Pages collage image to fit inside.  If you print on heavy cardstock, you can add the image as-is, but if you print on a lighter weight paper, or fussy cut an image, you may need to add a piece of cardstock behind.  Add a little lace around the edges, and a loop at the top for hanging, and you're finished!   Hang on the tree, decorate packages, or even use as tags. You can get rings and lids by clicking here . I used Perfectly Pink Christmas and Christmas Cherubs for these.  My daughter's favorite page this year is Christmas Kitty Cats , she made orname...

Winter Wonderland Ornaments Part I

Welcome back.  I hope you are having a great weekend.  In order to get you back to your Sunday Funday quickly this will be a somewhat short post as this is a muli-part project and part II will be in a couple weeks.  I have to say I am REALLY excited about this project and the ACTIVA clay I've been playing with.  I am making a number of fun shaped clay ornaments using the Black Plus Air Dry Clay from ACTIVA.  I have found this clay to be so very easy to work with.  For this project I basically treated the clay as I would cookie dough and rolled it out to my desired thickness (less than 1/4 - 1/2 inch depending on the size of the ornament) just like making sugar cookies using cookie cutters.  I used a cutting board that is reserved just for crafting and an old rolling pin.  I skipped the pictures on the early process as most of have probably rolled out cookie dough or watched our moms and grandmas make a ba...

Special Ornaments for the Tree

I hope you have enjoyed all the wonderful projects from the Altered Pages Design Team this month!  We have had a great time using Altered Pages products with our partner Craft Attitude!       One more Christmas project... PAPER DOLL ORNAMENTS!!!       To make double sided ornaments, print a page of Altered Pages Christmas Paper Dolls 1864 on copier paper and a sheet of Craft Attitude™.       Adhere the paper dolls on the copier paper to thin chipboard.  The chipboard about as thick as a cereal box is perfect.  Fussy cut the chipboard, then adhere the Craft Attitude™ copy of each paper doll to the back side of the chipboard.   Add twine to hang them from the tree!     For the outfits with hats attach them with twine. Add Wink of Stella for a bit of sparkle!!   Remember all collage sheets can be purchased digitally or printed.  Digital...

Decking the Halls at Altered Pages

Need to do " a little" decorating yet this year?  Sometimes there's just no place to fit a big tree, but that doesn't mean you can't have one. I purchased this small 12" tree at one of my local stores and decorated it using bottle caps and the Christmas Bottle Cap collage sheet from Altered Pages .  They make beautiful ornaments for any tree, but especially a small one.  There's even a bottle cap die to make the cutting of them quick and easy.  Fill them with a little Crystal Lacquer  and allow to dry, add a small piece of ribbon for a hanger and you're ready to decorate. Need a tree topper?  Create your own using a piece of the Joyeux Noel paper and this wonderful  Santa image from the Colorful Christmas collage sheet.     Let the decorating begin and create your own small ornaments this year.  Just think of the possible places where a little tree would make the holiday spirit brighte...

It's Snowing with Doilies!

Happy Friday everyone!!! A few years back I learned a technique to make a snowflake with a square die from the Spellbinders Collection from a tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers...When I saw these new Nesting Doily Square dies that Jean got into the store at AlteredPages.com I knew I wanted to try this out! I love the results!! I hope you enjoy them too! The noticeable difference in this die set and the Spellbinders Fleur de Lys is first the cuts--more filigree type cuts in the Spellbinders. However, you only have the 2 sizes to work with in that set and in this set there are 5. I chose the two sizes that were closest to the Spellbinders dies to test run this snowflake pattern. For this project I cut the second from the largest and the second from the smallest. The QuicKutz dies are SIGNIFICANTLY nicer to cut with for this project--because you will want to do this if you have them. They have padding in the punch out holes...why is this significant you ask?? Because the die automatic...

Christmas Star Ornament

It's not too early to begin making Christmas ornaments to share and to keep.  I love the look of handmade ornaments on a tree or as an embellishment on a special gift.  This chipboard star ornament features an image from sheet #1862D - Very Vintage Santas.  A watch crystal was attached over Santa's jolly face and large flake glitter surrounds the dome.  Christmas ribbon was hot glued along the edges of the star and a dangling acrylic crystal adds a bit of sparkle.  Yep, it's time to plan your ornaments now...Christmas will be here sooner than you think! ~Dianne
