Want to go for a ride?

I love the style of this old-fashioned bicycle.  It's one of the chipboard die cuts available at DIY Design Studio and it is a lot of fun to use.   My first idea was to try and distress the image with ink.  The StazOn is good for distressing chip board because it's permanent and dries quickly.  It just wasn't the look I wanted today.  So I decided to paint them instead.  Perfect for my project. I liked the gold bike so well that I decided to paint the other one, too. I added some rhinestones just to blint them up a little bit. For the gold bike, I chose the Life Time pad of Prima paper.  You've seen me use this one before.  It's one of my favorites because of the range of shades and splatters.  They are beautiful papers. I needed a piece of paper 6 x 4 1/4.  I opted to make the darkest section the body of my card and then use the part with the sentiment as a layer.   I added ...

Happy Halloween!

I love this time of year!  I know for a lot of people Halloween means decorating their home inside and out, but for me it is a great time to make spooky art.  DIY Design Studio has several fun Halloween collages for your art projects. Both of my cards started out with plain card stock and a piece of punchinella.  Green ink with green paper and white ink with black paper...just to give the blank space a little texture. I used a strip of washi tape for a background element but a strip of scrapbook paper or a piece of ribbon would also be great.  I just wanted something fun behind the main collage image. I added a few highlights to the Halloween damsel with a white gel pen.  There is shading on the pumpkin eyes and noses.  And tracing around the skull and crossbones on her cloak and the grid on her dress really make them stand out.   A few Dew Drops make a nice dimensional highlight.   For the card ...

DIY Design Studio, AlteredPages and Our Partner

March is USArtQuest Partner month at AlteredPages Hello to everyone on this fine Sunday! I was in the mood for Spring and found the perfect way to utilize AlteredPages, DIYDesignStudio and our partner, USArtQuest for a project. I began with my wood flower picture holder available at DIYDesignStudio.com.     The wood pieces are sanded and ready to paint or add papers and embellishments, high quality wood and MDF pieces make for fun decor and gifts. First I traced and cut paper for the front of the flower.  Before adding the paper, I painted the edges, I could have used inks or even an inkpad to color the wood.   I adhered the paper with PPA glue, edged with a yellow inkpad and added one of our darling spring flowers.   Then PPA* was brushed on the edges and Prills* were added to the glue.   *This universal acrylic adhesive and medium, has been extensively studio-tested on literally every type ...

Dixie Belle on a clamshell.

You probably already know you can paint pretty much anything with chalk paints, right?  I've used it on wood, metal, and glass, but I have to admit, this is my first time using chalk paint on a clamshell. 1.  A thin coat of paint, slightly watered down, coating the inside of said shell 2.  Iridescent plastic ribbon, accordion folded and stitched at one end, to look like a fan. 3.  The rock is holding the down the stitched end of the ribbon, which is drying with a dollop of glue, and a colored toothpick was added to the back of the collage image to give it support. Glue Haiku waiting for the glue project with many pieces an eternity  (It's okay, go ahead and moan--it was supposed to be ridiculous!) Added some sparkly white tulle, iridescent glass beads, "pearls," and tiny shells.  (I dunno who dyed all those tiny pink shells--it sure wasn't me.)  Ta-da!  Bathing Beauty. Stuff I used: ...
