ImPACT & PRIZE TIME!!!

items used in the creation of this journal page: book paper paint pens, felt-tip and ball-point pens white glue, Miracle Tape, gesso Gelatos EcoGreen Acrylic Paint Maya Road Mists Andy Skinner Stencil Collage Page Phrenology AP-900 Happy Friday everyone!! It's the last Friday of the month and I wanted to quickly share the above journal page that I created for myself using a ton of AlteredPages goodies. The image on the bottom right serves as a small pocket to hold a letter I've written to myself about the impact of the ImPACT [a cognitive testing system used to determine if patients have suffered a concussion] on my life over the last 8 months. The journaling lists the symptoms and restrictions of our concussion patient. We lived through this not once but twice in the past 8 months--you could say it's had an impact. The phrenology collage page was perfect for this page as well as the transparency of the gelatos and the textures achieved with the mists

Stencils...not just for Gelli Prints & Gelato's!

Hi all! Becky here today! If you haven't guessed by now, we members of the Altered Pages Design Team have a bit of an obsession with the stencils found in the shop { HERE }! We've showed you how to use them with our Gelli Plates & Gelatos. And of course, you can also use them with mists on all sorts of papers & cards. But today, I am going to show you a peek at how I used them - on a much LARGER scale! Hard to tell, but this is a 36x36 inch canvas! I am currently working my way through Flora Bowley's "Brave Intuitive Painting" book & what you see here is just the beginning! I wanted to show you that you can use stencils to add dimension to your canvases too... So far I have used 3 that are available in the AP store...Grandma's Doily, Cubist & Cosmic Bubbles. Because I am using acrylic paint on the canvas, I can't use glimmer mists or they will smear when reactivated with anything wet - paint, water, etc. So, I used a

Sunday in Arizona on a Holiday Weekend

It's here, the Holiday weekend everyone waits for!  The arrival of 'school's out', picnics, lazy days and vacations.  All good reasons to celebrate..... BUT we all want to take a moment to think about the REAL reason for this Holiday.     Thank you to all who have served the USA in our military.   I don't use the word hero often, but this holiday does celebrate the true heroes.   Those who gave their lives to help keep us FREE and safe.    Thanks especially to Jack McLay, Marine age 19, killed in a firefight in Vietnam on Dec 31, 1969.    Friend and HERO .

Paper Necklace with Altered Pages

Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to share with you today this beaded charm necklace that I created as part of a design team application this spring for Graphic 45. While I did not get selected for the team, I had a great many comments on the beauty of this necklace and wanted to share with you the wonderful products that I used to make if that are available right here in the Altered Pages Store. Jean carries the 8×8 pads of many of the Graphic 45 collections...I love them because they are double sided and makes finishing the backs of the charms super simple. She also carries the new 6×6" pads of the solids and pattern papers that were used to create the beads...a super size when creating beads--the larger beads here are from 6" long strips and the smaller from 4" long strips. The lacquer available in the store is a fantastic all-purpose glue for this project as well as a sealer. And the Paris Trunk Ink is my favorite "aging" ink with its smooth soft finish. I

Bonjour French Country

One of the things I love about art is the ability to travel through time and space on our creative journey. I hope you'll join me today on my journey au campagne francais. As Willa Cather wrote in My Antonia,  "Sunflower-bordered roads always seem to me the paths to freedom." View Source I am always inspired by the Altered Pages website where you can find adventure or nostalgia waiting for you whether in collage images or the fantastic paper they carry such as French Country from Graphic 45. I am using this line and sunflowers as the basis for some ATC's I am making for a swap I am participating in.  Altered Pages carries both the 8 x 8 pad with many different images and the 6 x 6 pad of more subtle backgrounds. I recommend the coredinations card stocks as an excellent base for ATC's, but if you are looking for something sturdier, the eco-boards are wonderful also! You will see why I love coredinations in a minute. I started by embossing my

Gelli Prints and Fun Foam Fun!

Hi Everyone!  It's Danie here with you today, and I have to tell you it's really like child's play when using a Gelli Plate and I am now adding one more child's product to the mix when using it - Fun Foam!  You can buy it in an assortment of shapes and colors from your local dollar store. You see recently I attended a Stamp Carving Class  and was re-introduced to the versatility of fun foam and yet another way to incorporate it as a tool for creating my art. We hand carved our own stamps, and w hilst doing so I thought wow I could use these with my Gelli Plate. Above is some of the prints taken using my handmade stamps.   The first one is the first print layer to which I have highlighted the design with some Yellow Gelato.  The second print is one using the stamps on the second layer. So then I decided to use my Big Shot and one of my Sizzix Border Dies to cut out some border strips to use as stamps, some of which I carved a pattern into
