Stencils...not just for Gelli Prints & Gelato's!

Hi all!
Becky here today!
If you haven't guessed by now, we members of the Altered Pages Design Team have a bit of an obsession with the stencils found in the shop {HERE}!
We've showed you how to use them with our Gelli Plates & Gelatos. And of course, you can also use them with mists on all sorts of papers & cards.
But today, I am going to show you a peek at how I used them - on a much LARGER scale!
Hard to tell, but this is a 36x36 inch canvas!
I am currently working my way through Flora Bowley's "Brave Intuitive Painting" book & what you see here is just the beginning! I wanted to show you that you can use stencils to add dimension to your canvases too...
So far I have used 3 that are available in the AP store...Grandma's Doily, Cubist & Cosmic Bubbles. Because I am using acrylic paint on the canvas, I can't use glimmer mists or they will smear when reactivated with anything wet - paint, water, etc. So, I used a combination of acrylic sprays created with acrylic inks & water or Tulip's fabric sprays. These are great cuz once they dry, they won't smear or run under other layers of paint.
For Grandma's Doily, I first sprayed it with a homemade spray in teal acrylic ink & water, then when dry, I layered another doily on top in yellow with the fabric spray.

With the Cubist & Cosmic Bubbles stencils, I sprayed a mixture of black acrylic ink & water for a subtle shadow of them in the background.
These layers are just the beginning! I am still making marks & then I will find/add shapes to draw out of the painting & highlight them as well as pair down to a color scheme that's not so busy!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Cheers!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
