Dragonfly Dreams

Hi everyone! It's me Tonya! First off let me tell you I'm super excited to be a part of Altered Pages/Mailbox Muse design team. The thought of having hundreds of vintage images to create with simply makes me giddy. :-)

I want to share my first project I created using inks and markers from this month's partner, IMAGE Crafts and products from Altered PagesIf any of you know anything about me you know I love to alter things and use stuff that would normally be thrown away in a lot of my projects. I started out with the empty packaging from one of those XLG Sizzix die cuts  and cut it down so I could run it through the diecut machine to cut the page out. Next, I embossed both ends with a small Polk a dot embossing folder. Then I inked the embossed surface and some of the edges with the following Emerald City, Blue Hawaii and Gothic Purple StazOn Inks.

Once the ink dried I dug into my own stash of scraps of paper and embellishments and came out with this pink paper and a "D" which I outlined with the fine point end of the Memento Nautical Blue marker and then I adhered all to the page.

Next I used the Altered Pages Green Backgrounds printable collage sheet, which I cut apart since it has four different backgrounds. I adhered one larger and a smaller background pieces to the backside of the page so as not to cover up the inking.

I used the Muse Dragonfly stamp and stamped with both the StazOn Gothic Purple and Emerald City ink onto the leftover Green Backgrounds. I fussy cut the dragonfly, added Startdust Stickles and adhered only the body to the page and shaped the wings where it looks like it is going to take off and fly. I cutout a banner and stamped verbiage and adhered to the top of the page. I topped it off with lace, sequins and Dew Drops.

From my own personal stamp stash I used this dragonfly (which I had never used until now) and stamped on some Bazzill cardstock with StazOn Gothic Purple ink. I fussy cut and added Startdust Stickles and adhered the body to the page and shaped its wings too.

I did try and stamp the bigger dragonfly onto the page and it didn't look right. So when I added the cutout image of the dragonfly over the top of what I stamped on the page it gives it a shadow effect…not bad for a mistake. :-) I also added more sequins and Dew Drops to finish off the page.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
