Graphic 45 - Bohemian Postcards

While at CHA  at the Graphic 45 booth we made these wonder tag pockets with Bohemian Bazaar papers and postcards. I LOVE the brilliant colors! To make the pocket, eyeballing it fold the tag about 1/3 of the way from the bottom.  Use double sided tape to adhere all papers and create the pocket.  I think the Bohemian colors are perfect for Day of the Dead projects and cards! Sunday in a COOLer Arizona

Hello friends and followers. At last, the doors are open at night to allow the 65 degree temps inside!  It is a welcome event when we can let the fresh air in.  Arizona is like the reverse of most of America, we get three months inside in A/C but we get 9 months of glorious outdoor weather! I realized I was caught in a box, in a rut because the business name is Altered PAGES and therefore everything should be paper, right?   WELL, yes and no. First, I want to share some Dominoes for a project that will become a necklace.   I started with standard "ivory' dominoes.   I applied Maya Road TRUE Black ink  to the clean domino and allowed it to dry.   I then used layers of Maya Road Mists in various colors .   Allowing drying time as I moved from one domino to another.  I used my fingers to smooth the color on some and on others I daubed them with an ink sweeper . After all was dry I coated the dominoes with crystal lacquer to create a seal...

Halloween Collage Sheet Door Tags

Hey y'all I'm Melanie Statnick one of the newest members of the Altered Pages Design Team and I cannot wait to show you what I've been creating in the studio!  I took Bingo cards and Tags  ,  Collage papers , and some of our beautiful assorted design papers  and layered them down onto the cards using Gel Medium . . I colored the side of the cards using Ranger Distress Inks and Ranger Blending tool   .Using Washi tape   to boarder the images, also using paper flowers  to add embellishments.   I punched two holes on either side of the card at the top and ran my ribbon through. Fun 10 min craft to hang on your cupboard doors or any door in the house! Happy Creating! Melanie

Halloween is coming....Flaming Sugar Skull

And here's a project to get you in the mood!   Altered Pages has some awesome  Paper Mache products available for Halloween which is where I bought this skull and mask!   To create the skull I started off by painting the entire thing with white acrylic paint.  I then stamped various designs on tissue paper and applied it using  Faber-Castell Gel Medium .    After the glue had dried I sprayed Dylusions Ink over the mask to create a fire-y design.  In some areas I sprayed extra ink, turned the skull upside down and let the drips run towards the top of the skull - drying with a heat tool at the same time.  This helped to "freeze" the drips before they went all the way to the top (bottom).  These drips help create the illusion of fire.   I made the mask in the same basic fashion but I squirted the ink into a small cup and painted it over my stamped design since I wanted to highlight the flower eyes. ...

For The Love Of Steampunk

Steampunk, Steampunk, Steampunk , Oh how I love Steampunk!!   What began as a literary genre of science fiction and fantasy that incorporated the techno and social aspects of the 1900's has now evolved into so much more. Through the eyes and hands of artists all over the world "Steampunk"  has been taken to a whole new level.  I am constantly amazed by the varying combinations of artistry and components from metal fixtures and gadgets to the wondrous thing- a- ma-bobs and Victorian industrial style!! It's flavor is unending and constantly delicious!!   With a love for creating the odd, and collecting the unwanted tainted pieces of what one may call "Junk"  I have formed a passion and true love for steampunk . It is not just the literary genre involving steam powered technology yet a beautiful art form using brass, copper and glass, polished wood, hammering, engraving, and oh the details for the sake of details wi...

some Halloween atcs . . .

Are you getting ready for Halloween?  Here are a couple of atcs, just to get you in the mood: These both have Gelli print backgrounds using Dylusions instead of paint, and even though it's tough to tell in the photos, some sparkly Wink of Stella pen highlights.  The images on the Altered Pages Collage sheet " Chubby  Cheeks " were the perfect size for making eight of these atcs! Have a wonderful and creative weekend, everyone! :)trisha

Quick Tip Friday!

Hi everyone! leslierahye here with a super quick tip for stenciling and misting with the Dylusions Mists from Rangers! I have a number of masks that resemble this die cut that I would love the positive image [the die] to be my "stenciled" piece. The problem with that is NORMALLY when you mist or ink a stencil like this is you get a lighter line unless you use something like paint. With the Dylusions mists however you can spritz a dark background...here I used the Grape Crush. Then I place my mask on my page and spritz with the White Dylusions Ink!!! Check it out...a DARK spiderweb!!! To find out more about this tag, hop on over to my blog .

A Cheerful Palette!

Aloha, it's Gia here. Today I am sharing a 6 x 6 mixed media piece I did with a cheerful little palette of brightly colored Dylusions ink spray colors. Did you know that Altered Pages carries fifteen, yes ONE FIVE colors of dylusions inks in delicious colors like Cut Grass, Funky Fuchsia, and Calypso Teal? I would hurry as these popular products tend to sell out quickly....wait where did you go? Oh, you are headed to Altered Pages now? That's awesome- but at least come back so I can tell you about the versatile Dylusions stamps I also got to try out!  So, I started with cold pressed watercolor paper because I like to work with this texture and weight of paper even when not using watercolors. I masked off the area to be inked with painters tape and coated it with gesso first. I then randomly layered colors on alternating with gesso and drying in between with a heat tool until I was satisfied with my background.   As a final background layer I used my Mayan Ca...

Have you Discovered Unchartered Waters?

Sadly I haven't been crafting much at all these past few weeks, my own blog has been very neglected.  I was in need of a birthday card so I used that as my excuse to get away from all the other stuff taking up my time and dug into my Altered Pages Stash where I ventured into ' Unchartered Waters '.  That's the name of the Paper Collection from Glitz which I used to whip me up a manly card.   The nautical based themes and colors of these papers are just perfect for a male card, nothing overly dark, not really any floral designs apart from one paper and they all coordinate beautifully together no matter which way you mix them up.  I love the slightly distressed look of these papers too as it suits my usual messy style. I decided to follow the nautical idea and used this Glitz Sailing Boat Stamp which is from their Happy Travels Set.  I stamped and embossed then cut this out to align with the edge of my layered papers which includes a piece of the em...

Playing with Steampunk Spells!!!

I LOVE working with  small paper pads !   Altered Pages  had plenty of them!!  You will find  Graphic 45 ,  Bazzill  and  Glitz  papers and more at  Altered Pages .  The papers are the perfect size for working on A2 cards (4 1/4 x 5 1/2 folded size). Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells was used to create this banner card.  The papers in each pad are color coordinated, making it easy to layer papers without having to search for colored that go together. If you have a lot of paper scraps from one of your paper pads, you may want the think twice before  throwing them out.  This is a quick and easy way to use up some of your scraps, make a banner card!!!  Cut paper with paper cutter and scissors. EASY!  Attach with adhesive! Supplies: Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells paper pad Steampunk Washi Tape Sprocket - Gear Die Cut Gold Paint Black Ink Altered Pages is have in...

He's kinda been through the wringer traveling the country! Here's the full 6x6 canvas...Its a deep edge, so I carried a lot of my texture over to the edges,  I think you'll notice is that I used the cool Cubist stencil from the shop too (as well as the wonderful punchinella !)The rest of the texture is from stamps & another mask I have in my stash. That's it! Be sure to check out all the new stencils in the TOOLS are of the shop! They just...
