Buddah Love

What does a left over Sardine Tin from my cat's Dinner and Buddah have in common?  They make a great little shrine that I love.

Shrines are of course all about honoring deities/people that you love.  Buddah is one of my favorite Deities, he features throughout my home.  Of course I got so engrossed in the making I forgot to take in progress pictures.  The Gold and Red Tones of the Tin were my starting point for this creation.

I started by giving the outside of the tin a light sand with sandpaper and a coat of Gesso before adding some red paint.
Next I took a nail punch and pierced two holes in the top side and one in the bottom for adding ribbons to hang my shrine with and also from the bottom I had a gold coin to add further interest.
I used the Cherry Blossoms Background from the Oriental Backgrounds Collage Sheet to line the inside of the tin.  To the bottom I added some dew drops to replicate a rocky ground and add a bit of shimmer.

Next I found a image of a Golden Buddah that I had saved off the internet, and stuck it onto some card stock to strengthen it before cutting it out.  I also had some tiny square quotes from Buddah  and a left over butterfly.   This quote reads 'When you realize how perfect every day is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky'.    I inked the edges of all these pieces before mounting both the Buddah and Butterly so that they stood out a little from the background, giving the shrine more depth.  Lastly I added some rows of gold bling around the two sides and across the top of the background to frame Buddah.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
