Mica and metal love with USArt Quest

We have partnered with USArtQuest and wow, do they have some awesome, creativity inspiring product.

I don't just like metallics I LOVE them. Incorporate them with texture and I'm in heaven! I hope you enjoy this mixed media work.

SUPPLIES:
USArtQuest Perfect Pigments acrylic paint in Orange, Metallic Light Gold and Indian Red Hue
USArtQuest Mica Flakes in copper
USArtQuest Mica Tiles
USArtQuest matte medium and Duo adhesive
Decorative papers
Piece of lace (from my stash)
Collage Image (from my stash) but you can find some gorgeous ones HERE
Molding paste
Stencil

The items I chose for this piece.

I used some of the lovely mulberry paper in a terra cotta color. I ripped off a piece and used matte medium to adhere it to the canvas board. I used a piece of lace from my stash, and did the same.  I wanted a masculine and a feminine side.

Here, I used molding paste through a retro patterned stencil and let dry.

Once the paste was dry, I started using the lovely USArt Quest perfect pigments acrylics. I just put the colors on my finger tips and rubbed them here and there over the paper, lace and molding paste. They are a bit sheer but full of color. I love the effect.

Now, I have to admit, I didn't do the gilding as nicely as I could have, but I was going for a more rustic look as the image I was using was more refined. I love contrast.

So with my USArt Quest Duo adhesive, I messily painted over several parts of the canvas. Waited until it turned clear and then laid down some of the foil in various spots.

Next I added my image. This was from an old magazine and was in the crease so the image didn't cut out as a whole. I had the lady and the man separate. I loosely trimmed around them and here you can see the seam.

I used some more of the lovely mulberry papers in a light pink with grey flecks and another one with yellow flowers on it.  I just tore small  pieces and put over the seam to not only cover the seam, but I think it gives it a nice smoky soft look and the color blends well with her dress.

Now I used the USArt Quest Duo adhesive again, only this time with their copper mica flakes!  This added some more glam to the images and I loved how it came out!

Here you can see where I added it to several places on the canvas to tie it all together.

Last but not least, I used a USArt Quest Mica Tile, stamped on top and adhered to the canvas. Here is the finished product. I really love this piece, it was so much fun using the USArt Quest products available through AlteredPages.com.

I want to keep it but it will be one of several pieces I abandon on my upcoming trip to the UK.

Thank you for looking and I will be back at the end of April with another project.  As always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below!

Here are just some of fantastic items I received from AlteredPages recently.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
