Christmas the silly season is upon us, so I don't have a project per say however I had a few moments spare finally to break out a product I have had on hand for some time but hadn't yet played with. Creative Paper Clay is an air dry modelling material which you can use with suitable molds to create your own embellishments for a wide array of projects you make or simply shape into your desired embellishment by hand and etch pattern or details into it, etc.
Start by breaking off a piece in the size large enough for your chosen mold. Knead and warm it a little in your hands to make it more pliable and then fill and work it into the mold. Smooth off the clay so it is level with the top of the mold and then set aside to dry. Usually allow 24hrs for this.
Be sure to place and store immediately your left over clay in an air safe container such as Tupperware so it doesn't dry out.
There are various molds on the market that are suitable to be used with this type of clay and a huge assortment of designs to choose from. The seashells I have used today are available at Altered Pages and are from the same manufacturer of Creative Paper Clay. There are other top papercraft brands also making them. Some of the ones I have used also have been simple silicone cake decorating and chocolate making molds,. I like the flexible softness of these types of silicone molds.
Once the molds are dry you can pop out your shape, and color as desired.
I love the softer effects you can achieve with a combination of watercolour products such as the Niji Pearlscent Water Colors applied with a Water Brush and finish with a touch of color from a Gelato or Acrylic Paint Pen.
So if you haven't tried it be sure to have a play with some paper clay and see where it takes you.
