Feature Artist
DONNA SALAZAR

I am a wife, a mom, a grandma (to the cutest little boy that has ever walked the planet), an artist, a designer, an instructor, an overgrown kid, a big time foodie, and I'm lucky enough to own my own company called Donna Salazar Designs®, LLC which allows me to license products with a few manufacturers in the craft industry.

I spend most of my days watching my grandson, Hunter, (my son's family lives with us so I get to play with him EVERY day) and when I can sneak in some studio time I can be found creating some of my "Girlie Grunge" projects (my version of mixed media but with a feminine twist). I also LOOOOVE to cook. I love baking most of all and making cookies with my grandson is one of our favorite things to do.

What is your favorite color?
my favorite color is indigo blue... the color of denim...

Do you remember when you started creating art?
I remember being in 2nd grade and making a 3 dimensional bird out of paper mache clay. I remember it being the first time I lost myself in a project, how much I enjoyed it, and that it was really good.

What is your favorite tool?
Right now my favorite tool is the 12x14 Gel Press. I can spend an entire day making monoprints with crazy cool textures on it.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
