Queen Vee ATC "Holographic"

Queen Victoria deserves her own regal turn at an ATC.

This crazy idea came to me after I watched a demonstration on bead gel medium. What if I could stamp an image on the 1st layer of color; would it show through the cured bead gel medium? Well, let's see how it came out.

The ingredients list included:
Gel Bead Medium (substitute Gel Medium)
ATC Paper, Board, Etc...  (3.5" x 2.5")
Art Anthology Paint
Queen Vee Rubber Stamp
Stazon Ink
Splash Ink

I cut a piece of watercolor paper to the 3.5" x 2.5" ATC standard size and scraped an even layer of Fiesta Art Anthology Paint and set aside to dry.

Using the Stazon Ink I stamped the Queen Vee Rubber Stamp

Nice and crisp we could stop right there, BUT I couldn't. I scraped bead gel medium over the image and set aside to dry overnight.

Okay, here it is dried. You can see I couldn't resist adding a text stamped image before gelling. Go Wild!

Now for the fun part. Adding ink over the bead gelled areas. Some yellow...

Some purple...

Now, don't get scared by the intensity. When it dries it is sublime. Here is a closeup:

The interesting thing is what it does in different lighting.
Studio lights loses the image:

Now you know what I meant by holographic.
With the light at an angle:

In natural light:

In low natural light:

No, I did not pump up the saturation. It truly looks that intense. Sooo cool.

So, Queen Vee has been given the royal treatment for this ATC soiree.
Thank you for joining our Design Team and Guest Designer fun this month.
Ciao for now,

  1. what wonderful inspiration! I have all the ingredients - except the stamp - to give this a bit of an experiment. Did you use regular ink or alcohol ink to color the beaded areas?

    Thanks for the technique idea!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
