Upcycling Saves Waste and OUR Planet Earth

IT'S JEAN TODAY, HOPING YOUR WEDNESDAY IS FANTASTIC!

Old kitchen cabinet doors or drawer fronts become treasures for your home or for gifting.    Holidays or memories, seasonal fun decor for all year long.  Make Monogram gifts too!

Make a coffee table tray from an old kitchen door....no crabs allowed!  (created by Amy Joyce Mehring)

Fill any holes with Dixie Belle Mud and sand them, base paint is Dixie Belle Butter Creamy.

Paint the door panels with Dixie Belle Ocean and a mix of 1 part Palmetto and 4 parts Butter Creamy OR Kudzu mixed with Butter Creamy 2 to 1 part.   Use a loose technique wiping the paint heavier in some areas, lighter in others.   After it is all dry, use Grunge Glaze and wipe it all over the tray.   Allow the glaze to be heavier in the crevices.

THEN add your stencil image, choose from a great selection at AlteredPages.    You can use paint OR glaze for the stencil image.    A sponge can work well, or a brush.

Upcycle some old drawer or door pulls by cleaning, painting if needed and wrapping with jute cord for a true coastal, beachy feel.   I would clear coat 2 times to ensure against wet marks.

Depending on your area of the country and level of humidity, allow to dry for a full day before using the tray.

Hope this inspired you to get moving and SAVE the Planet too!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
