Dixie Belle Treasure Box

Have you enjoyed all the great projects the Altered Pages design team has this month with Dixie Belle Paints?  I have... can't wait to see what they have in store for the last week of the month!

This month I have been on a roll!!!  For some reason the sea is calling me and all of my projects have had a seas theme.  Here we are today with a sea themed little treasure box.

I love the coverage of the Dixie Belle Paint on plain wood.  I only put one coat of paint on this box!

Supplies:
Dixie Belle Paint - Sea Glass
Dixie Belle Glaze - Van Dyke
Dixie Belle Clear Coat
Wooden box 3 x 3 inches
Burlap
Tacky Glue
Gold Leafing
Charms
Dew Drops
Shells
Sea Stars

Paint wooden box with Dixie Belle Paint - Sea Glass,
set aside to dry!

Careful not to paint the hardware!

I painted the box inside and out to give it a finished look!

Once dry apply a thin coat of Dixie Belle Glaze - Van Dyke,
wipe off any excess, let dry.

Cut a piece of Burlap the width and length of the top of the sides  wooden box lid, adhere with a liberal amount of  Dixie Belle Clear Coat.  Since this box is 3x3 inches. I cut 13 inches of burlap, I had an inch over lap in the back. Let dry.

With Tacky Glue apply bits of Gold Leafing, let set, them apply a light layer of Dixie Belle Clear Coat

Now embellish with Charms, Dew Drops, Shells and Sea Stars.

I takes a good day for all the glue and Clear Coat to dry.
Once dry, your box can be used for gift giving or home décor!

  1. What a great little treasure chest to store seashore embellishments and charms! Love it ... and I love that seaglass color - so pretty and calming! The fabric looks so nice against the paint - as does the gold leaf. Need my address? LOL

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
