Hi Everyone it's Danie here again and I am following on a little from my last post which was titled Spring Butterflies. Mainly because I had the supplies still on my desk; some butterflies cut out, spring colored paints still out, and my Eco Art Board ATCs were within reach.
I decided I would use the ATC Art Boards as covers to an accordion style book and teamed all the supplies I had out with a mix of quote stamps with the theme of Dreams.
A quote that actually came to mind which inspired me to use the butterflies with the Dream Theme was ‘Until you stretch your wings……..you’ll never know how far you can fly’
I started by taking a piece of A3 Watercolor Paper and cutting two strips from this the height of an ATC - 3.5 inches and then taking one of the ATC Art Boards I folded these around it, back and forth to form an accordion fold each fold being the width of an ATC - 2.5 inches. There was a smaller piece left on each end. I cut one of these off one piece but left the other to be able to glue my two pieces together to form one larger piece. Before gluing my book together however I had to add some color and detail to the pages.
Taking some Vintage Book Pages I tore small pieces of a mix of these across my water color paper strips and the fronts of my Art Board Covers.
I then added a mix of paint colors to my Gelli Plate (8 x 10) and smeared them around it using an old credit card. Before taking the print I used the edge of the card to put marks and remove some paint to give a more distressed look.
I then allowed this to dry and then brayered one color of paint on the back of each strip.
Once this was dry I took out some stamps. Polka dots and paint splats and using a mix of colored ink - Gold Delicata, Midnight Blue and Spiced Chai Staz On I stamped the before mentioned stamps across the backgrounds of my book.
At this stage I started gluing my strips together and the covers onto them, adding a ribbon to between the cover and first and last page to be able to keep the book closed and together. I then decided what pages I wanted to stamp my quotes onto.
Using Black Archival Ink and Embossing Powder I stamped and embossed these onto the pages.
I then took a flower stamp and using the same black ink added this silhouette across the remaining pages. My stamp came in four different sizes, I used two of these and randomly stamped them across the pages to give it a field of wild flowers look. I then took a Black Paint Pen and messily sketched over the stamped flowers to give it a more hand drawn look.
The final stage was to add the butterflies that I had left over from my previous collage project.
My finished book can be read two pages at a time or viewed in all its glory like a pull out banner.
