MD Hobby & Craft Upcycled Earring Holder

This month
the Altered Pages Design Team
is excited to be working
with products from
MD Hobby & Craft

Today Karen Conner has create an upcycled frame she transformed into an earing holder using a MD Hobby & Craft metal sheet.

Karen created a way to display her earrings with this beautiful MD Hobby & Craft metal sheet.  It will house frequently used earrings and still be pretty - like art.

An old mat frame was upcycled to use with the metal sheet.

The mat got a base coat of gesso, set aside to dry. Add dimension with texture paste and a stencil to the corners. The metal sheet cuts easily with a guillotine cutter, cut metal to the size needed to fit behind the mat.  Rub blue metallic wax paste with an old t-shirt over most of the metal sheet.

Color the image from the  Altered Pager Ziegfeld Girls collage sheet with a q-tip and Niji Oil Pastels gently rub with finger to blend.

Color the mat with grey gelato, then add blue gelato. Use slightly damp paint brush to add the gelatos. It has a nice water color look. If you water it down too much - you can add more gelatos and keep blending. Once satisfied, add white gelato to the raised texture paste areas.

The gold frame was painted with black acrylic paint Allow to dry.  Blue and silver wax paste was rubbed on the frame until I had the desired result.  Attach the metal sheet to the mat with heavy duty tape.

Adhere the collage sheet directly onto the metal sheet with Adhesive Dimensionals, then lace Ribbon & Lace around the edge of the collage image on the metal sheet, tying the bow at the bottom.  Finally, embellish with a flower attached with Tacky Glue.

Here is a short video of the finished project:

I simply LOVE how it turned out.  No telling how many pairs of earrings I'll be able to fit on there!
Supplies:
Texture paste
Gilders Paste blue and silver
Ribbon & Lace

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
