Cinco de Mayo Pocket Letter Page!

Cinco De Mayo is a celebration dating back to the Battle of Puebla.  The battle was between a 6,000 strong French army against a poorly  equipped Mexican army of 2,000.  The Mexican army defeated the French who were known to be the premier army of the world.

With Cinco de Mayo just a few days away... I thought I would start the celebration with a Pocket Letter Page.

First cut the colors of the flag of Mexico: green, white and red to make the three columns of my page, 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches.

Enlarge the map of Mexico to cover several of the cards.  Adhere to the cards with glue stick, butting up the cards so the map will line up when cut apart. Let dry before cutting.

Fussy cut images from Altered Pages collage sheets Cinco de Mayo, Olde Mexico & Flags of All Nations . Cut pieces of MD Hobby & Craft Metal Mesh to use as an embellishment on the page.  Using scraps of the green, white and red cut banner flags.

Layout items on the cards, moving and arranging until you are satisfied with the design.

  1. Fantastic project for these Cinco de Mayo images! This is one of my favorite collage sheets. I like how you tied so many of them together by using a large image and then cutting them apart. That's a great technique tip!

    1. Robin using a large image has been one of the things that has drawn me to Pocket Pages, with ATC's each one is an individual. On a Pocket Page the cards are a part of a whole.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
