Stencil 1 & Dylusions Fun

Happy Friday Again Friends!

You might already know that for the month of April Altered Pages will be having fun with Stencil 1 Stencils and you are sure to see numerous great projects.
For my first Stencil 1 project I thought I would just have some fun playing in my Dylusions Journal.  I used acrylic paints, collage and burlap flowers.  I literally had to make myself step away from it as I just kept playing and playing.
Here is the finished page.
I started by applying gesso to the entire layout even though I was only going to be working on the right side of the journal.  I thought I would get the left side ready.  I forgot to snap pictures, but I used the left side to clean my brushes and this started a nice backround in a similar color palette for my next layout...no wasted paint.
Here are the two pages waiting for the gesso to dry completely.
Next, I began adding layers of watered down acrylic paints in teal, turqoise, pink and purple.  I also splattered some turquise over the top of all the layers.  A lot of this will be covered up, but we love layers right?!

Next, I added some fun vintage collage images from Altered Pages all related to art supplies and the letter "S".  I adhered the collage images with my matte medium.
I also added a few German Scrap white flowers.

In this above picture you can see that I finally started steciling with my 3 Mums Repeat Stencil from Stencil 1.  I basically dry brushed the same acrylic colors over the stencil that I had used for the backround.  I used a very dry, dry brush and added the layers bit by bit to achieve the look I was after...you can always add more, but difficult to take away.
That is what gesso is for!
I will now just let the pictures do the talking instead of me, well typing, but you know what I mean.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
