My Dear Grandma

I always love being able to say this...Happy Friday Friends!

Thanks for stopping by today.

For today's project working with Altered Pages products and my versatile Stencil 1 Mum stencil I have made a giant tag.  This is a more special than average tag you see.  I created this tag to send to my dear, dear Grandmother, my Mema, who will be 85 years young in June!  We may live on opposite sides of the US, but we are close in each others hearts and I am very lucky to still have her in my life.  She is a hoot...seriously, you would love her.  This tag will be part of her Mother's Day goodies this year.  I hope you enjoy.  I will include a supply list at the end of the post.

I started this by using my Dylusions journal as my work surface.  I knew I would get some Gelatos and acrylic paint all over the place and this could very well be the base to a great journal page.  I already used this once before to clean off my brayer when making Gelli plate prints.

I started with a giant tag that I had already applied gesso to...this really makes the Gelatos awesome to work with.
They just move and float...yummy!

I then began adding my base layers of Gelatos, bubblegum, guava and a bit of lavender.
I mildly wet the surface of the tag first.

Once that was completely dry it was time to bring in my Stencil 1 Repeating Mum stencil.
I only used the smallest version as I wanted a tighter pattern.

I actually used my journal page as my paint palette and mixed acrylics paints using pale baby blue, turquoise and a bit of white.  I then came in gently over the top of my stencil using a plain old paint brush...nothing special...and added a couple mums in opposing corners.

Then came the beauty...choosing all of my collage images.  A little birdy told me that one of the ones I have chosen is going to be in the upcoming Spring 2015 Mailbox Muse Kit
Ooooh spoiler alert!

In the above pic you can see that I adhered the images.  You can use your favorite adhesive...I almost always use matte medium.  You can brush it right where you need it.

I definitely could not leave the back of this tag undone.  Mema deserves pretties all both sides.  So, I added a layer of soft blues, pinks and whites again of acrylic with a bit of Gelatos smeared here and there.  No need to be precious about this...it's just the background.

I then added a bit of torn vintage text and more collage images.  Mema will love the combination of the tea roses and old postage along with the sweet birdies on the front of her tag.

Here is the front before I added the trims and ribbons.

Thanks to Altered Pages for always having an endless supply of collages to choose from.
Thank you to Stencil 1 for this very versatile repeating Mum stencil.   This will be in my go to supply cart for sure.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.  Make sure to leave a little hello...I love hearing from you.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
