Meet the Altered Pages Designers: KAREN CONNER

At Altered Pages we have a very talented Design Team!
We are proud to introduce you to one of our members

KAREN CONNER!

Hi! My name is Karen Conner. I live in Southern Virginia. I just had a birthday-turned 54. I've been married for 35 years (to the same man!) We have one furbaby-a Shih tzu named Snickers. I have one son who married a beautiful young lady. They've blessed me with 2 wonderful grandchildren.

In 2005 I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Bone cancer in my right bottom jaw. I spent a year in the hospital taking chemo. They took my jaw bone out and replaced it with a bone from my leg! What a miracle! God blessed me so much that year! I am now a 10 year cancer survivor!

I've been crafting my whole life. In 2004 I went to my first Stampin Up party. I instantly fell in love with cardstock, punches, stamps and ink! Then I found YouTube! Oh my! What a world that opened up!

In 2011 I joined my first design team-Word Art Wednesday. I've had the privilege to be on several design teams: Perfect Sentiments, Nice Crane Designs, Outlaw Women Scrapbook Emporium, Stamp-N-Doodle, Party Time Tuesdays. Guest artist for Paper Artsy, Marks Finest Stamps and Craft Hoarders Anonymous.

I currently design for Stencils by Retta and Altered Pages. I am a member of DecoArt Helping Hands Artist program.  My style has definitely evolved-I do a little of everything from clean and simple to shabby chic.

I LOVE mixed media. Combining paints and inks to create something is like magic! I love trying new techniques and experimenting with new products. I create cards, layouts, mini albums, mixed media canvas....I love to draw, paint with acrylics and watercolors, use colored pencils.

Have a blessed day!!

  2. Karen it was very inspiring reading your bio♥ The only tip I have is cutting holes in the bottom of foam egg cartons to hold sprays, dabbers , etc! I keep them sorted so I can pick them up and carry to my table.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
