Laughing Cow Cheese Box Gift Card Ornament!

This month Altered Pages is teaming up with Just For Fun Rubber Stamps and their design team to share lots of inspiration and creativity.

Today I wanted to share my first project.  You all know how much I love to recycle things and today I have a fun "green" project that is both functional and pretty.  A Laughing Cow Cheese Box (you know they are just too cool to throw away) that I turned into a fun Christmas Ornament that doubles as a gift card holder!

And this is what it looks like inside....

Here's what I did... I started off by reinforcing the hinge area with a piece of really sticky fabric tape. This is much more durable than say masking tape, double stick or washi tape.

Next I painted the inside of the box with Deco Arts Glorious Gold Metallic Paint and the outside with black acrylic paint.  While the box was drying I stamped a piece of white cardstock with Tree Line stamp.  It was then colored with a bit of ink and the Ink Blending Tool.  The trees were then die-cut with a circle die and mounted on a doily die-cut which I had embellished with a few dots of the Pico Embellisher.

I then cut out one of the Santas from the Blue Traveling Santa Collage Sheet and his sled filled with toys and adhered it to the tree line.

Next I stamped several Holly Swags; colored and cut them out.  I applied a layer of Goosebumps Shimmer texture spray to give it a bit of shine and sparkle.  After they were dry I added a couple to the top of the die-cut piece which was then mounted to the front of the cheese box.

Inside the box I stamped the sentiment and affixed a second image from the Blue Santa collage sheet as well as a couple more bits of holly tucked under the image.

I finished off the box with a bit of Green Jute around the rim, a piece of red sari ribbon for the hanger and a few dabs of Stickles Glitter Glue here and there.

Supplies:

Altered Pages: Blue Traveling Santa Collage Sheet; Stickles Glitter Glue; Green Jute; Sari Ribbon; Memento Ink; Aleene's Tacky Glue; Ink Blending Tool

JFF Stamps: Tree Line; Holly Swag; Wishing You (sentiment)

Other: Laughing Cow Cheese Box; DecoArt Paint; IMAGINE Crafts Pico Embellisher; Goosebumps Shimmer Texture Spray, Memento Markers; Die Cuts

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
