Did you ever say, I could make that!

See below for Blog Hop & Partner October projects, it's been a GREAT month with ArtAnthology and The 31 Days of Halloween Hop with The Smeared and Smudged Ink Blog.

BUT FIRST......

I will share what may be one of the funniest TRUTHS of the Crafting world.

Heather Mann has DONE IT!
She has exposed the myths of Pinterest, Martha Stewart, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle and other craft sources. Yes, the book, magazine & Pin projects we feel we must accomplish. Her book pokes fun at all of us!   I dare you not to laugh!

Haven't you gone to a Craft Fair or drooled over a Pinterest project and then foolishly said, "I CAN DO THAT"!

As Glitter is my witness, I know have!

I opened Heather's BOOK, I was soon in tears from laughing so hard.  I showed one of the finished projects to my husband and his serious response was (keeping in mind these are crafting projects) "Is that made from pork rinds"?   Sadly no, it was a Burlap wreath!

READ ON, You may win a Book today!

CRAFTFAIL (which you can order here) illustrates the hilariously gruesome underbelly of the creative process. Inspired by her own craft experiences, Heather gathered real-life home decor fails, fashion fails, holiday fails, food fails, kid crafting fails, and best of all—EPIC fails (those projects that are so inspiring that they are attempted again and again by members of the crafty tribe to, quite
frankly, disastrous results)! Filled with over 100 full-color photographs of the hoped-for outcome and the underwhelming reality (plus captions pointing out what went wrong), these embarrassing and often pathetic crafting attempts are the stuff that gets the “A for Effort” and LOL for outcome.
But amidst all the terrible failure is a celebration of those of us who are brave enough to pick up the scissors and get crafty!

As one anonymous crafter said: “It wasn’t supposed to end this way.” But we say

luckily for us, it did.

TODAY we will randomly choose one commenter on THIS post as a WINNER of their very own copy of CRAFT FAIL, When Homemade Goes Horribly Wrong

Heather lives in Salem Oregon and is the founder of CraftFail.com and DollarStoreCrafts.com.  She has been crafting all her life and blogging since 2000.   Heather is also cofounder of The Blueprint Social, a social media consulting company and network of influential bloggers.  Heather also co-hosts the web show Get a Little Creative.

Thanks for making us giggle, Heather!

Now for Day 29 of 31 Days of Halloween!

The following project incorporates both elements of the Blog Hop and our Partner for October, Art Anthology. Love their paints!

I used Sorbets in the colors Coral and Mint Julep for my backgrounds. I also used a stencil and added the Julep brushing it on thickly for texture. The shimmer is so awesome!

I had a favorite Sin City stamp on hand, I thought fit perfectly for this project.  I used a Stazon Ink Pad,   I then layered Bazzill paper over plain Coral background with my skeleton stamp.   I also edged it all in Black Stazon.  I then added a crescent moon charm for the skelly to ask for help.    Finally I tied it all with jute cord and threaded a SKULL bead for extra horror.  AHA, I added a second background of cardstock, heavily textured with Art Anthology Dimensional Crystals in color Sunbeam.  Love the rich colors for sure!

ENJOY and SHARE our Blog and Website with everyone!

Spookily Yours,  Jean

  14. I have seen some of those craft "fails" and empathize so very deeply. That's typically what happens with me; BUT, I'm learning ... slowly ... but learning! And it's always nice to know I'm not the only one with such epic fails. :)

AND, watching all these daily art pieces, I have decided that the Art Anthology paints will have to be my next category of purchases... They're so beautiful!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
