Sunday in Arizona it's Almost Fall-ish

It was 101 at 6pm, but we really can see that Fall is coming, the sun has moved in the sky & the heat feels a little different too.

We are heating up in another way!    We are hosting Jen Zdanis Starr in October for workshops in Phoenix and we are VERY EXCITED!

Jen has been making art her entire life and has been scrapbooking, card making and making colorful yet vintage inspired mixed media art since she married her wonderful husband, Mike, in 1997. They live in Northern New Jersey and have 2 children (11 year old Ryan and 9 year old Maya) who are the subject of much of her work.
Jen absolutely loves to teach her students to use their creativity and help them think outside the box. It makes her so happy to be able to share her skills, knowledge and love of the art of scrapbooking and stamping with so many others.

Make sure to stay tuned and learn how to register for classes. www.AlteredPages.com  Home Page has class registrations.
3 AND 4 HOUR CLASSES WILL BE HELD.

Here are some of the topics:

BOOT CAMPS for MIXED MEDIA plus take home finished projects ~

In the truly MIXED MEDIA Boot camp workshop we will journey through the world of water based dye inks…sprays, stains, ink pads, etc.  Exploring much further than just the basic techniques, the focus will be on MIXING your mediums with other products to create some beautiful effects that will translate to all of your projects whether you are a card maker, scrapbooker, art journaler or dabble in everything!

Take home examples -

In the Creative Banner workshop you will explore stunning mixed media techniques to create effects that sparkle and shimmer while you make a one of a kind 1x3 ft butterfly themed pennant for your wall! You will be working with mists and Jen's line of Dimensional Crystal paints from Art Anthology plus a variety of goodies from Viva Décor to add details.  Your finished project will be so full of dimension and texture that the butterflies will seem to come to life!

You can create a painted, crackling, stenciled, highly textured masterpiece on this 8x12 canvas incorporating a variety of techniques and products from Viva Décor and the brand new Jumbo floral die from Tim Holtz for the Canvas flower.  We will focus on mixing media such as Ferro, Inka Gold, and Crackle to achieve layers of beautiful depth that just glow.

Make sure to check this coming week for more announcements.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
