halos, highlights, and Halloween with Pan Pastels

Have you seen the amazing "paintings" that people do with Pan Pastels?  They're fabulous.  But you won't see one in this post--waaaaaayyyyy beyond me!  However, I still REALLY like these pastels, and am having a great time incorporating them into my creations.

One of the things I tend to "do" is halo, or highlight, around people or words, sometimes with gold paint, but most commonly with white crayon.  However, I'm seriously considering trading in the white crayon permanently . . .

Let me show you some before and after photos.  Here is an atc I did a while back, the background is a collage of papers from a Vintage Text Pages Pack, paint, etc.  Around the stitched heart is a subtle halo/highlight of white crayon.

Here is the same atc, but with white Pan Pastel for the halo/highlight.  I like this one better!

Before
This one has a more subtle difference, due to the light neutral papers used--again from a Vintage Text Pages Pack.
After--adds a little "glow," yes?
One more---this is a tip-in layout for a Poe themed book I've been working on.  The background paper is a Gelli Plate print:
Before--some grey crayon
white and black Pan Pastels
Again, not a dramatic change, but I definitely like the blended Pastels better.  Here is the whole layout, just for a little peek:
Layout open, little book shut
The little book open--it's a pop-up book INSIDE a pop-up book.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
