I want to go where the Wild Things Are!

Hi everyone it's Danie here today, sharing some play time in my journal and teaming up with Sin City Stamps.

This month we are sharing projects that include those wild and enchanted little folk known as fairies.   I've been hoping to meet a fairy most of my life and although I tried to stay up as a youngster to catch a glimpse of the Tooth Fairy and searched and searched all around the garden I have never seen one. Hence why I want to go where the Wild Things are, as I am sure if they are going to be found anywhere it would be there.

So with this thought I grabbed out my Large Dylusions Journal to play and experiment with my new Pan Pastels.  All the color on this page is Pan Pastels, for the added definition and details I have used the magical technique known as Popping Pastels which is where you stamp or add detail (in this case draw) with a clear medium such as Versamark Ink and then rub color over the top to reveal the image/design.  You can see I have used this technique for the swirls of my grass the leaves and flowers on the tree and the heat haze streaks of the sky.  The swirls and leaves were created using an embossing folder to transfer the design.

I want to go where the Wild Things Are!
In my dreams it's not very far.
I don't know what I can expect to see
Perhaps a fairy under a tree

In my dreams it's not very far.
It's a magical place with lots to see,
full of color and everything is free

Can you see in the distance behind the fairy is even more wild creatures.  These creatures are stamped using a Stamp from the Wildlife Set by Sin City Stamps.  It features my absolute favorite animal the elephant.  You can also make out the Giraffe and Zebra in the above picture.

The end result was totally wild and messy which I loved.  That's what experimenting with products and how to use them is supposed to be right?  I also loved the subtle effects and changes in color I achieved given I only own seven colors which consist of two shades of blue, two shades of red, black, white and a yellow green.

So if you want to see some fairies you don't really have to venture where the wild things are, you can simply check out the wonderful collage sheets in store at Altered Pages.  One of them I just love is the Fairy Children which I used to make some ATC's.

and to see even more you can pop back here to the blog each day and check out the other wonderful fairy inspiration being shared by my fellow team mates throughout August.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
