Guest Artist Gloria Stengel

ALTERED PAGES is honored to have
Gloria Stengel
as our Guest Artist!
Help us welcome her!!!

My name is Gloria Stengel and I live in beautiful, southern California. I am a wife of almost 27 years, and the mom of three kids, and the owner of two cats. I have been hooked on paper crafts all of my life. I have always loved to color, play with paper dolls, and create "projects"! In 1990, I discovered rubber stamping and in 1996, I stumbled across "modern" scrapbooking. I love all aspects of paper crafting: card making, scrapbooking, mini albums, altered art, up-cycling, you name it! I am happiest when I am making a mess! It's the cleaning up part that I don't care for!

My newest passion is designing stamps and other digital paper crafting items. I have stamp designs with Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps (clear/cling) and Hampton Art Stamps (wood mount). I also hope to have my own paper line someday!

I have been on a number of design teams over the past few years, including three terms with Graphic 45. I also accept various guest design spots and work with online stores from time to time. I have recently started my own challenge blog, Craft Hoarders Anonymous. I think the name says it all.

I have a blog, a Facebook Fan Page, and a YouTube channel in order to share my creative work. Please visit my blog, Scraps of Life: www.gloriascraps.blogspot.com for more inspiration and for links to my other "hang outs."

Gloria Shares one of her AMAZING Tags!

Hello happy, altering people! I am so excited to be here as a guest designer on the Altered Pages blog! I do love to alter stuff! I altered a large tag (8 1/2 x 3 1/5 inches) to create a fun, Halloween home decor item. You could also use this for fall decor by making a few changes to the project.
I love to make tags. They are such a fun canvas to alter. I covered this tag with Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells paper (8x8 pad) before adding all my lumpy stuff! I also added a chipboard bird cage (from the Altered Pages store), which I painted black. I love bird cages, and I love how the detail on the cage matches the detail on the black lace.
I had a digital copy of the Altered Pages Fairy Dolls (AP-1060) and I loved the colors on this fairy. I enlarged her and printed her onto off-white cardstock. I used sharp scissors to fussy cut her, and then I used foam tape to pop her off the page.
I found a fall spray (from the floral department of the craft store) hiding in my stash of "junk," and I had the idea that the fairy should hold one of the tiny pumpkins in her outstretched hand! Can you see it?  I added lots more flowers and botanicals to the bird cage.
I stamped onto a scrap of paper and trimmed the date with a die template. I sponged some ink over the top.
I also love bottle caps! I have a bin of black, squashed bottle caps that I dig into all the time. (Altered Pages sells bottle caps, too!) I used a circle punch to punch the moon sticker from a sheet of Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells stickers. The moon face fits perfectly inside the bottle cap! I added a postage stamp sticker from the Graphic 45 sheet, plus I cut the butterfly image from the sheet as well. (I have two butterflies on the project, because I had two sheets of the stickers!) I topped the tag with some ribbon and flowers.
And that is my project! I hope you will stop by my blog (Scraps of Life) and visit.

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
