INGRID VIENT

Ingrid Vient has been an artist in some form or another all her life. In fact, one of her nicknames is “squirrel” because of the vast number of artistic pursuits that pull her in all sorts of directions. One week it might painting, printing and collage, the next week felting, embroidery and quilting, with some home décor projects here and there. For her it doesn’t matter what the media is so long as it fits her desire for texture, color and interesting shapes. So with that being said here are a few projects she is sharing with us today.

Hello everyone! I can’t tell you how flattered I was when Jean asked me to be a guest artist. It was hard to pick out what projects to share but hopefully one of these will tickle your fancy.

This home sign is made up of different found objects, thrift store bric-a-brac attached with Gorilla glue onto red burlap. A scrap piece of pine and trim were painted an off white color and glued and nailed together. Then the burlap was cut to fit and glued down. Arranging the parts and pieces was great fun. See if you can spy old silverware, an old perm hair roller, scissors taken apart, corks, small metal bowl, buttons, etc.

Moving in a different direction media-wise is a sign I made for my art room. Chipboard letters, gears and mesh tape were glued down then carefully covered with metal tape and embossed. Next came the distressing with watered down black paint and wiped off after letting it dry a few minutes. I had to go over it a couple of times to get just the right amount. Embellishments were added and then different colors of alcohol ink were applied and blended together in some areas. Then I added washi tape around the edges and punched a couple of holes to attach a wire hanger.

This one is a work in progress. I had a play date with one of my friends and the technique we were working was making fabric paper.  Various papers were put down onto white muslin with a gel medium and then painted and stamped.  It definitely needs more color, layers and maybe some hand stitching.
Thank you Ingrid for sharing your art... NOW the rest of us need to GO CREATE... with our JUNK!

HAVE A CREATIVE DAY!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
